When I was ten I got glasses then at 13 got contacts..?!

Question:

When I was ten I got glasses then at 13 got contacts..?

I am so sick of not being able to see anything when I wake up not to mention the cost of contacts and whatnot. (paying for them in a lifetime I figure add up to way more than lasik would cost so it's been on my mind) So I recently started searching about lasik. I was wondering how well it works so if anyone has had this done please let me know. Also about how much per eye did you pay? Any advice on finding a doctor to do this? Also how long did it take you to recover and beable to see I read that it can take up to 6 months has many people had those results? Oh and another thing I was wondering if they have a certain age before they'll use lasik? I'm 22 and my eyes haven't changed in the past few years.

Answers:

You're at a pretty good age to get lasik. You may want to wait another year or so to be sure and to research a doctor.

I was with my girlfriend the whole time she got it done and with my cousin as well. The cost depends on how how bad your perscription is. Most ads give VERY low estimates that would be for someone with almost no perscription. My girlfriend has about a 1.0 perscrition in each eye and it cost her about $2,000/eye at a place that advertised $699 per eye. She says it's worked great, but again, it depends on the person. I had to go pick her up the day she got it done because the patient can't drive right away. She's kinda skiddish so they gave her a valium for the procedure which caused her to go to sleep right afterward. They also give you some antiboitic drops that you use every so often while you're at home. She was able to drive 2 days later but had to wear these special sunglasses they gave her for about a week.

I worked with an optician a couple of years back, and would frequently work with people just had lasik done. Many of the older patients (55-60) complained of getting some glare while they drove at night, but the doctor said that was because of their age and whatnot.

If you're young and in good health, the procedure should be quick, easy, and with a fast recovery.
