Is 20/20 still relevant today as of 1862 when Snellen Chart was formulated?!

Question:

Is 20/20 still relevant today as of 1862 when Snellen Chart was formulated?

I mean these days most people are undergoing much more stress as in 1863 and expose to computer gadgets and playstations etc, so is it still relevant to appropriate 20/20 as a normal eye sight for the general American population. Is there any census taken to check on this?

I heard UK has similar 6/6 VA and how about Europe, is it something 0.1 and if such, how relevant is it compared to American's standard?

Answers:

jason...those are all essentially the same thing. different ways of describing letter size. thats it. its not magic. how many different ways can you describe letter size? dozens. snellen, logmar, mar, jaeger, point, etc etc etc etc etc they're all the same. so what if its from 1862?

6/6 is the *same* method as 20/20. exactly the same. one is in meters and one is in feet.

ameerah: he knows what 20/20 is...he's asked DOZENS of questions about it in the last week. he's obsessed with acuity and letter size. he probably now knows more about it than you do. its getting old, really...he's pretty much spamming this board with his questions/concerns about acuity. i havent seen his numbers, but i bet its 5+ optical questions per day for the last week.
