Post cataract surgery?!

Question:

Post cataract surgery?

I have recently had a cataract removed after a penetrating eye injury in May. I have loads of black spots floating in my vision, a blurrring right in the centre of my eye and flashing blue and white lights. The flashes are only small but are ghetting more frequent. Any ideas?? I have got an appt next week but was wondering whether I should phone them today.

Answers:

You need to phone them RIGHT NOW. Increases in flashes and floaters is a sign that something more serious is going on...especially with you having a recent open globe injury and cataract extraction.

Increasing flashes and floaters is one of the signs of a retinal tear or detachment. Get to the ER if you notice a curtain coming over your vision or if you cannot reach your ophthalmologist's office in the next few minutes...DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER.

If you do have a retinal tear or detachment, the best thing is getting treatment quickly.

I hope it is nothing, but the signs are there from what my retina and ocular trauma team always says to look for for tears or retinal detachments.
