Can you sell unused contact lenses on the Internet, e.g. eBay?!

Question:

Can you sell unused contact lenses on the Internet, e.g. eBay?

I have the unfortunate circumstances of ordering contact lenses by post, but don't wear them often enough. Now that my eye sight has got worse, I now have a stock load of contact lenses which are essentially useless.

Can I sell them on eBay or the Internet? Is there any restrictions? They are in date, new, unopened boxes.

Answers:

Legally....there is no way to sell them on Ebay. Contact lenses are a medical device that is reglauted by the FDA which requires a valid prescription in order to obtain. And since you are not a doctor, it would be VERY illegal...and any person dumb enough to purchase contacts from an Ebay auction is asking for trouble...that would be like trying to sell a prescription medication on Ebay...not legal AT ALL!!!

See if you can exchange them...that is the problem with ordering contacts through the mail. Often times, they will not take them back, even if they are unopened. When you get them from your Optometrist, they will usually exchange them for your new prescription for you. Next time you order your lenses, you may want to cut back on how many boxes you order to avoid having extra lenses that you cannot use...

Did your Rx change that much that you still couldn't use them, even if only in an emergency?? Contacts usually have a very long shelf life, so even if you held on to them in case you ever run out of lenses, they would come in handy...
