Can eye 'gunk' cause more floaters?!

Question:

Can eye 'gunk' cause more floaters?

A tad gross, but every morning I can't see because I have so much fluid built up on my eyes. I have to actually put my hands in my eyes to get it out, and it seems that my floaters are getting worse. I've had them for years, but either I notice them more or they're getting worse. The eye build-up has gotten worse and worse. Is this a direct link? I am afraid of going blind so I want to keep a close eye on it, but I have no insurance and since this "great" US of A has no universal health care, I'm already up to my ears in medical bills.

Answers:

1st of all, floaters will not blind you.

secondly, no, no amount of eye gunk could ever cause more floaters. eye gunk exists on the surface of your eye/adnxea...OUTSIDE of your eye. floaters exist INSIDE of your eye.

not trying to be rude, but this is like asking if dirt on the hood of your car makes your engine run poorly. they're not really related at all. one's inside, one's outside.

edit: and as an aside...you dont really want national health care. you just think you do. the people who really understand how it works will tell you its not all its cracked up to be. the system we have now certainly isnt great, but "universal" health care is not the answer. health care is just expensive. its expensive if you buy it yourself like you're doing now, and its still expensive if everyone else is buying it for you (as in 50-60% tax rate to pay for "national" health care for everyone). at least the way it is you can shop around and make your own choices. if "the government" (i.e. the taxpayers) pays for your health care then they get to make a lot of the choices FOR you: when you are seen, who sees who (nurse, doc, etc), whether or not you need treatment and what kind of treatment you need, etc etc
