Contacts vs. glasses, which would you choose as the better option?!

Question:

Contacts vs. glasses, which would you choose as the better option?

Answers:

Your question is like asking which is better a flat head or a phillips head screwdriver? Neither is better than the other. They are different tools that do similar things but depending upon the situation each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Glasses, as you have found, have several disadvantages. They break if you sit on them. They can hurt your ears and nose. They can get easily scratched. They can fog up when you come inside out of the cold. But they are simple to pick up and take off if you want to wear for a time and remove for a time. They can protect your eyes from flying debri. And some studies have shown that professionals who wear eye glasses are promoted more rapidly than those without.

Contacts on the other hand have their disadvantages. More time demands in inserting, removing, and caring for the lenses. Greater risk of eye disease such as infections and ulceration of the cornea. It is necessary to adapt to the sensation of contacts on the eye. (With time almost all patients are able to adapt to the sensation so there is no pain). But then they are really nice for sports and other outdoor activities (i.e. hunters don't get rain on their glasses). And vision with contacts tends to more closely mimic normal sight.

So, what I am saying is you need to look at what you are wanting in your visual world and what your day to day activities are like. Then you can better decide whether the flat head or phillips head screwdriver would be best for the task.

But really the only way to know for sure is to try contacts. In my office we offer a no risk guaranteed contact lens trial fitting. What that means is you can come in and have an examination. We will then fit you with trial contact lenses, teach you to take care of them, and send you home for several days to let you see how they work out. If they work well then we proceed to a final dispensing of lenses. If not, then you just throw the trial lenses away and you don't have to pay for any lenses.

Call around to several offices and ask if they offer a no risk trial lens fitting. Then go in and give it a try. What can you loose? Hope this helped.
