When should you get prescription glasses?!

Question:

When should you get prescription glasses?

Both my parents and my sister wear glasses. I'm sure I don't have 20/20 vision. Does waiting to get glasses help or hurt your vision in the long run?

Answers:

Actually this came up at my eye doctor appointment a few days ago. I'm farsighted and should have glasses. Without glasses I get headaches and a tense neck, but I can drive without them so I don't "need" them.
Wearing glasses makes your eyes relax, and over time your eyes become dependent on the glasses and your vision gets worse. That's why you need a re-exam every year, to updates the RX, since your vision is getting gradually worse.
Without glasses, your vision will remain the same (provided that you don't have a degenerative disease) and as long as you don't need them to drive, the worst that can happen is whatever discomforts you are feeling now.
Get an exam, and ask the doctor what they think. Just make sure you don't go to a doc that sells glasses, or you might get a pretty biased opinion.
