Do you have to change your contacts every month?!

Question:

Do you have to change your contacts every month?

I just started wearing soft contacts in June and I know that my optometrist said you must use new ones each month and throw out the old ones. On the other hand, my mom has used contacts before, and she said that she has worn them for 6-8 weeks and nothing has happened. My mom told me to wear them only until they start to irritate me or hurt. Is this true?

Answers:

i have contacts and my doctor said that you can get infections by doing this BUT it depends on how good you take care of them like if you put them in without watching your hands you add bacteria and irritate your eyes! so just ask your mom how long she has worn them like how man years and i mean if she has worn them for a lot of years with no problems its fine! but be carefull no longer than 2 months!
to keep yourself from getting infections and to wear them longer follow these directons!
1:wash your hands with soap and warm water then get your solutiom rub the contact gently then put in your eye!
2:wash your hands take out the contact then rub the contact with the solution for about a 1 or 2 rubbing gently so not to break them then fill the holder with fresh solution and put both in there!
if they get irritated in the middle of the day or you have sensitive eyes follow step 1!
the longest i have ever worn my contacts is 5 weeks! and they started to get irritating and i had to wash them 3 times a day with solution but when they get irritating that means they have germs and unwanted substances! take them out and throw away!
