Can shaving lead to MRSA?!

Question: I've heard some stories of shaving leading to MRSA... is this true? Shaving legs (for women) I mean. There has been some talk of football players who shave getting MRSA, but can women?

It's possible if you break the skin while shaving and the razor has the bacteria on it. Just be careful when you shave, and if you get anything that looks like it might be a spider bite that hurts and/or itches, go see your doctor right away.

Any cut, any break in the skin, can potentially lead to MRSA, if you have the misfortune to encounter it. You can minimize chances by sterilizing everything, though.

There is always a potential of getting staph when the skin becomes broken somehow. But if you shave in the shower and are using soap when you shower, I would imagine the threat is lessened. Just make sure the razor you're using isn't all rusty.

Yes, but it isn't the actual act of shaving that would cause an infection. If you cut yourself while shaving then the wound has the potential to become infected.

Shaving does not increase the risk, it just provides an opening in the skin.
