The best, hands down is the copper IUD. It's the most widely used in the world...OUTSIDE of the US. There are a lot of reasons for this, mostly due to the power for the pharmaceutical industry. It's in their best interest to spread misinformation about the IUD, so women spend more money on their products.

The IUD lasts for about 10-12 years and costs around $300-500. The birth control pill (in it's many, many forms) costs $30-100 every 3 months (depending upon the brand and your insurance). As you can see by doing some basic math, the copper IUD is WAAAY cheaper. Plus it doesn't have the crazy side-effects that the pill can have.

I've been on 10 different kinds of hormonal birth control (9 brands of the pill and the patch) and they all did different whacky to just plain horrible things. Yasmin was the best. The copper IUD does none of this. The worst that could happen is very very rare things like it get inserted wrong, or it slips out (and if you pay attention you can tell) or you might get a tubal pregnancy (very very rare). There is also Mirena, which is also an IUD with a small amount of hormone as well.

Personally, I don't want any of that stuff b/c when health problems strike it can be hard to diagnose since the pill carries many side effects that can mimick or mask legitimate health problems.

There is also the Ring, which I've heard mixed things about. There are condoms which are fine, but ruin the mood IMO. There are others as well but the IUD is w/o a doubt the best there is for women. Aside from a tubal ligation ;P

See a gynecologist and talk with her/him about your lifestyle and health issues to help determine what is best for you. If you are interested in the IUD do not take "no" for an answer. Some gynecologists are jerks about it. Go to Planned Parenthood if you can't find one to get it for you.

Condoms, duh

the pills

A no-hormone IUD

birth control pills are actually very bad for your body in the long run. as much as they suck, stick with condoms.

the pill is good for me but everyone is different see your doctor and they will tell you i wouldnt recommend the depo shot had that before NEVER AGAIN!

Condoms, be sure you're not allergic. Safest and pretty convenient for after-sex clean up.

Everyone should know natural family planning and also condoms. My bro was born with those internal devices - IUD.

Birth control has many other uses other than contraception that women need. Birth control pills should be available to everyone irregardless if it might cause abortion or cancer. Pills should be made as safe as possible. However some women get such a bad headache from one pill they cannot take another and other women that I know with hormonal imbalances have gained 100 lbs.

Most people find lower-dose ones to be better. But nobody can say what's the best because they are so many types and they all work differently on individuals. See your doctor so they can pick one, and if it doesn't work try another one, that's all you can do. On this site I have heard loads of people recommend Yasmin for example, but a friend of mine hated the side effects and had to switch, it's a very individual thing.

Well I take Loestrin, and I haven't had any side effects from it. But just because it's good for me doesn't mean it will be good for you. Talk to you doctor and they will help you choose one that is good for you. Good luck.

Ummm Mike-- do you know what an IUD is?? Cause you aren't "born" with one. A doctor opens your cervix and sticks it in. And it keeps the eggs from releasing so you stop your period. DUHHH

An IUD works well and doesn't usually have any side effects. It is nothing like the pill (which you can forget to take), the IUD is always there and you are always safe. Good Luck.
