Eating on your period...?!

Question: I feel kinda dumb asking but I've had my period now for about 8 years now...i'm 19 and every since then I've felt like the first few days of my period was a free pass to eat what I want and not feel guilty about it. Then I heard that the first day of your period the body burns more calories. How much of this is true?

None of it is true. Your metabolism works the same whether or not you're menstruating. You DO need to watch what you eat...women can gain a LOT of weight by binging at the start of their periods...weight that is just as hard to get off as if you'd binged the rest of the month.

PMS cravings are normal; just keep it under control, or you're going to end up regretting it down the road.

I don't know if it is true or not.....but I think it should be!

No. Old wives tale. Would be nice if true! :-)

I don't know where you heard that, but I doubt it. Your body needs calories to function. Your organs need calories to function, but your period is the end of a cycle so why should your organs need more calories for something that ended? It makes no sense. And if it was true, the extra amount of calories must be insignificant. Don't over eat on those days. It may make you feel more bloated

It's not really true. honey. if you eat as long, you will gain you weight, you'll get your period.
