Why do you start birth control the first Sunday after your period?!

Question: Is this some kind of universal rule? Were you told to start the first Sunday after your period? What if you get your period on a Sunday... do you wait a week or start taking pills that day? Just a curiosity question.

The reason Sunday was chosen is that it is easier for most people to remember. Like someone else said, not everyone is a Sunday starter. Some birth control pills come with days of the week labels so that you can personalized your birth control pill packet with whatever day of the week you start with.

As for when to start, if you get your period on a Sunday, you start taking it that same Sunday. You do not wait a week. Remember to choose a backup method of birth control (such as condoms, diaphragm, or foam) to use with your first pack of pills because the pill may not fully protect you from pregnancy during the first week that you start taking them.

It depends on the type of pill. Mine i had to start it that morning (basically as soon as i realised id got it!) However some u start taking it the following sunday that it starts. Im not sure why it does this... maybe so its completely regular... so you would get your period on the exact same day each month... If you got ur period on a sunday... then i suppose you would start it that day!.. it would probably say on the packet. If unsure, ask your doctor

I think that's how the Catholics do it.

Not everyone is a Sunday starter.

Unfortunately I can't be much help to you. . . But I was told that as well. I have no idea why and at the time I didn't think to ask my dr why. I think it's so you can get on a steady schedule instead of something crazy. And I'd say yes to the waiting the week. Sorry I couldn't be helpful. Good Luck in all you do & great question by the way!

the pills start on sunday goofy.

Some are like that but i would read any and all info that came with them and if that didnt answer then ask the doctor that gave them to you most of the time all youwould have to do would be to call a nurse could answer you
