Inserting tampons??!?!

Question: Help...i have very heavy periods and i'm tired of leaking through my pads every month! It's SO embarrassing and it feels gross to be sitting around in a pad in class! I really want to use tampons, but i just can't find the vagina opening. I've looked i a mirror and everything, but there's only skin. i tried to poke the tampon where the hole *might* be and it hurts alot. There's completely NO visible hole in the center, am i abnormal??HELP!!

Your vaginal opening isn't in the center. It's towards the bottom, roughly about 2 centimeters below your urethra, an about an inch and half or two above your anus.

Here are accurate diagrams of femal anatomy (in case you need a little preview of what you're looking for)...

EDIT - when you do find it, and you want to give it a go ahead to try and insert a tampon, try doing this:

1- *lock the bathroom door* after you've cleaned up and everything, stand up and lift your leg placing your foot on the seat of the toilet or on the edge of the bathtub - doing this will allow your vaginal lips to spread, and will give easy access to your vaginal entrance.

2- relax your muscles, as much as you possibly can. unwrap tampon, and hold by the little grips. lean forward a little bit, and place the tip of the tampon directly onto your vaginal opening, insert tampon with ease (until the tip of your fingers touch the outside of your vagina...don't ram it in there - that'll be a little uncomfortable. slowly is better), and push the tube until it is all the way inside the bigger tube. your tampon will be inside your vagina now, and you will most likely not be able to feel it (since deep inside of the vagina - has no sensitivity). tuck string away....best to place it inbetween your butt cheeks and not inside with the tampon so you don't lose it.

3- if you need to clean up some more, then go ahead. wrap tampon up in the wrapper, and throw in trash can - NEVER flush the cardboard or plastic applicator! be sure to wash your hands when you're done.

a geneologist is someone who examines ur vaginal area for abnormalities..and checks ur breast..by the way how old r u??anyway umm insterting tampons is kinda hard...but if u have a really trusted friend sometimes they can help!! I mean not someone u just met either..or sit on the floor with the mirror in front and do it that way!! GOod Luck all else fails ask ur mom she might know more then u think:G

Your mom doesn't need to have ever worn a tampon to help you find your vagina. But, if there is another reason you can't ask her, you should relax and use the mirror again. You aren't abnormal. If you have a period now, you must have a vagina. I would suggest you talk to your mom. Perhaps you're too young to use a tampon? Good luck.

i can try and help you..i was sort of in the same situation. I dont like pads either, but with tampons it is tricky at first. What i would try is to set one foot on the toilet and the other on the floor, a little apart, and then use your mirror to find the hole. You should have one since you have your periods. I hope this helps you.

Thats what mine was like, and whether you believe it or not, there is one. And im guessing your a virgin otherwise you would be able to, which is good. I couldnt wear then until i lost my virginity. Just keep trying, dont ram it in to hard but use good amount of pressure.

Your mom can still help because (spare me the "ewws") she's had intercourse. You put the tampon where a penis would go during intercourse. Just ask her for help. Start with a small tampon though.

Also consider the type of tampon you're using. I found it a lot easier when I was a teen to use the plastic head ones (I think Tampax calls them Pearl, nowadays) as opposed to the ones without a rounded top. And I like having the plastic applicator still, rather than ones like ob where you just use your finger.

Plus they come in different sizes, and you'll likely find it easiest to start with the regular or teen ones (avoid words like "super" or "plus").

I never did feel comfortable using a tampon while I was a tween and younger teen, though. It wasn't until high school that it felt okay to me, so I'd try it once a year or so, and then go back to pads. Tampons, once I got used to them, are a lot better. When used right, and you're used to them, you truly don't feel them.

U sound just like me! I got so tired of using pads that I decided to teach myself how to use them. I had no help from my mom either (but I never asked.) Your mom can help u. trust me, she may have not used a tampon but she has had u! the vagina is right b4 your anus. they're very close together okay? you're not going to c anything but skin until u stretch open with your fingers yourself. and this may sound gross to u but put your finger there and push a little bit to get a feel for it. trust me, it's there hun, u r not abnormal. that lookin in the mirror crap didn't help me out one bit. i had to feel for it myself. anyway, when u finally find it, squat, and make sure u r relaxed, becaus if you're not, it's not gonna go in. and u know, just gently push it up there, and push the end of the applicator so the tampon can get in there, and take the applicator out. And although I've never done it, I've heard some people forgot and left part of the applicator in there, so make sure both of the pieces r out. hope i helped!
