Cauterization of the cervix?!

Question: I am soooo scared. I had an adnormal pap about one month ago. They said I had Low grade squamous cells. The doctor said not to worry, but he did a test where he scrapes the cervix for samples to send to the lab in order to find out what kind of HPV if any. He also said when I go back next week he is going to cauterize my cervix, why would he do that if it's low grade??

To make sure they don't develop into full-blown cancer. Cervical cancer does not have a particularly promising cure rate, but cauterization has an excellent record at preventing the condition from progressing further. Be assured that cauterization does not necessarily preclude pregnancy if you decide later that you want a child...

Because if he doesn't, it could get worse. It could go away on its own, but personally, as someone who's been in your shoes (only I had the abnormal cells frozen off instead of the LEEP procedure you're having), I couldn't stand to just sit around and "wait and see". It's a vigilant approach and it sounds scary, but it could potentially safe your life. Good luck to you.
