Donate blood?!

Question: Can I donate blood (to the red cross, I guess) If I am breast feeding? Is that OK? Will I be OK? Will the baby be OK? Is that a bad idea?

The baby is 5 months old and very healthy. I have been taking Prenatal vitamins since forever. That gives me tons of extra iron that is not leaving my body (nursing mothers often do not have that "time of the month" that other women do, that depletes the iron supply.). well, the extra iron does not leave my body except in B-feeding? (iron, is of course, very necessary for tiny babies to build healthy bodies...) But do I possibly have too much iron? I take like 150% the recommended DV for adults (it's on the bottle). I have taken this since I was pregnant (the nine months)...

They usually stay away from new mothers and ask that you start to consider donating again when your child is more than a year old... you have a lot of different things going on in your body right now... like the iron levels and hormone levels etc.

If you still have questions look it up on the internet or give your local donation centre a call.

I think people who donate are amazing and help so many.

I would just call the blood bank you plan on using. I think the rules change from state to state. You could also try asking your doctor. Call the office and ask to speak to a nurse. She should be able to tell you.
