For women who have Mirena, IUD.....?!

Question: I had it put in on Oct 30th of this year. I have only had like 10 days were I wasn't bleeding. I have no sex drive. I have really bad cramps, especially if I'm a bit constipated. Also I've never been a stinky girl if you know what I mean but now the odor is nasty. Has anyone gone through this? I'm considering having it removed. They say the symptoms will go away after 3 months. Thanks for your input.

I had it for 2 years and the cramps are awful and you do bleed more and heavier. I don't know if I would remove it yet. Just give it at least 3 or 4 months and try it. My gyno told me to take 4 ibuprofen (200mg) every 8 hours and that helped A LOT!! But before you do that, talk to you dr. I am sure the reason you have an odor is from all the bleeding. I would use it again if needed but my bf is fixed so I had it removed. Keep giving it a try and if you can not get use to it or have more problems, get it removed! Good luck!

I had Mirena fitted in April, for Endo not contraceptive reasons. I had it removed in September because i bled for virtually every day of the 5 mths it was fitted. It made my Endo pain worse than ever and i had cramps nearly all the time, some days worse than others. I don't know if it was the hormones in the coil or the fact that i was bleeding & in pain, but i had no sexual desire at all and i seemed to have pmt constantly. My symptoms didn't go after 3 mths, but we are all different. At the end of the day it is your body & if you are unhappy with it have it removed.

Yeah, that sounds like exactly what I went through. My doctor promised that the bleeding would stop after a few months, and it did! And, yeah, the bleeding was nasty smelling. But when the bleeding stopped, so did the smell.

One of my doctors told me it can take a woman's body up to a year to fully adjust to the IUD. I'd give it till at least January, to see if the side effects begin to subside. If you smell really bad, you could have an infection; I'd get that checked out. Mirena raises your risk of pelvic infections.

As for the constipation, drink more water than usual, and consider taking a fiber supplement like FiberSure.

Any chemical birth control can lower your libido, unfortunately. Isn't it ironic?

I got mine last month, in November not for bc but for menstrual problems since I had tried everything else out there, nothing worked. I have to say i'm loving it. I only spotted 2 days after the insertion. My first period after getting the Mirena was painless, light and short (finally). My sex drive, well, is actually too high. I've had no side effects so far, thankfully.

Not every woman reacts the same way with the Mirena. After the first 3-6 months many women fall right into the swing of things, others don't for a longer period or not at all and others fall right into it the moment they get the Mirena.

I'd consult the dr. if you're really concerned about the symptoms you're having. Additionally, the odor may be indicative of an infection.

I have the Copper IUD and I know that one of the side effects is longer, heavier periods, more cramping, etc. I'm not sure about Mirena but my doctor told me that the side effects of that one tend to be the opposite. But everyone is different. I personally haven't had any cramping but after I had the IUD inserted I was bleeding pretty heavily for more than 2 weeks. You might want to talk to your doctor to make sure your experience is still considered a "normal" reaction or if something more serious is going on. They might also have some suggestions as far as odor, cramps (I was told to have advil with me 24-7), etc.
