Do you mean risperidone ? Amenorrhea or absent menstrual periods is a documented side effect of this drug. There have been studies done on this particular effect, including trying out substitutes like quetiapine with some success. As with any other medication, the effect on different individuals varies. There are women who have soon resumed their periods once they are off risperidone or had the dosage reduced/tapered off. Some may take longer. There does not appear to be any reports of sustained or long term amenorrhea after stopping risperidone.
Alternative medicine advocates suggest licorice root (Glycyrrhiza radix) & white peony root (Paeoniae radix) to help with amenorrhea resulting from risperidone treatment. But consult your doctor before taking any supplements or alternative medication, in order to minimise risk of contra-indications with existing medication.
