Is anyone else with PCOS having problems with hair thinning, breakage and severe!

Question: I am 30 and was diagnosed 10 years or so ago. I am overweight and most of my weight is in my stomach. I get facial hair under my chin and my top lip. I even have fine hairs on each side of my face. I have had ultrasound after ultrasound and even had a laparoscopy and I have been told many times that I have huge ovaries that are polycystic. My neck has gotten darker, but I have been tested for diabetes twice in the past year as it runs in my family -- negative results.

My hair has been doing this for about 10 years but it's gotten worse. It breaks in certain places but especially in the top center of my head. The new growth comes in very coarse, dry and brittle. It's like it grows in and then breaks off. I do have a relaxer and have for 13 years, but my hair didn't start all this until around the time I was diagnosed with PCOS. My hair is especially coarse and dry in one area. I can clearly feel the difference in texture. It itches so bad that I dig in that area a lot.

It's hormonal. Your doctor should be able to recommend something to help balance your hormones. Good luck getting help quickly--your symptoms sound miserable!

well i have been diagnosed with PCOS too this year..im 23 years old overweight too but my doctor gave me presrciption and its Metformin(Nidcor) then i weigh 205 pounds and now i weigh 161 pounds...so you have to work out PCOS can be cured if you just eat healthy and exercise its the only way...my hair is becoming thinner too and it was thick before..well i don't really know why your hair is almost that itchy...maybe you got dandruff?? or overused of using chemicals on your hair?? just shampoo it everyday in your own bathroom... from now no more salon for you...just have an Hot Oil twice a month...also if you can find some coconut....the juice of coconut you can use it as a source of hot oil too with no chemicals involve so its more safe because its natural.... you know what i mean and then after you apply some juice of coconut cover your hair with a towel for 1 or 2 hours and then rinse it with water don't apply shampoo anymore..so that it will have an affect on your hair...if you have questions more just email me....shanna_carebears@yahoo.com....good luck to you...
