When you have your period....(read more)?!

Question: Should you see a gyno when you start your periods?

My period is very regular
Long 7-10 days (take or give a few)
Very heavy

I have no problems but should i be checked by a gyno to make sure things are functioning okay? Or am i just worrying?

Also....if you go to a gyno...how often should you go?

I basically just want gyno info

Every female of reproductive age should see a gynecologist. The decision of how often to be seen should be made with you and the gyno, but once a year to once every three years is average.
It is true that most females wait until there is a problem, but at the first exam, any questions you have can be answered.
The doctor will probably do a pap smear (this test checks for unusual cells in and on the cervix), palpitate (feel) your abdomen to check your ovaries, and probably do a breast exam as well.
Why worry when everything can be checked in a 45 minute office visit?

No. Not unless there is something weird happening.
How old are you ?

I did not go to the gyno till I started having sex... I do not think there is any reason to go when you start your period... then you should go once a year they say... a lot of women do not go that often but you really should try to stick to that once a year

go see a doctor it is serious i have it for three or for two days it is fine but you are not fine

When you first start your period there is no need to go see a gyno. But how often i am not exactly sure, and it lasting for 7-10 days and it is heavy is a little more than I have or have heard from other ppl!

yea you should. once you start having periods, you should go see a gyno, and then after that is most likely every year for the regular check up. If you are sexually active, then you will get pap every 6 months, and you should ask for blood test annually to make sure you are healthy.

you should start seeing them after you are sexually active. If you are truely worried about your cycle, you should see them right away. You could always call a nurse or doctor and ask what they thing, but a heavy flow can be normal. When you are sexually active and if you choose to take birth control, your periods will get significantly lighter. HOPE IT HELPS. Good luck, and congrats on becoming a woman

PERIODS R NORMAL N NATURAL FOR A GIRL.
WHY DO U NEED TO C A GYNO ??

JUST TALK TO UR MOM OR ELDER SIS IF U HAV ANY PROB.
OK.

You don't need to see your gynecologist until you become sexually active or around age 18. Long, heavy periods may be normal for you, but if it begins to become a problem (i.e. accompanied by severe cramps) you could see the gyno and get on the Pill to alleviate some of that.

One you start having sex/turn 18, you should see the gyno every year. This is why it is called an "annual exam."

Basically, i know this is overused, but whenever you feel ready.
Most people start seeing one when. a)they first get their period, or b) they go before they start having sexual relationships

When you see a gyno, you should ask her about how often you should make appointments, and etc etc

I think it's a good idea, although I never saw my gynecologist until after i was about 20 or 21.
With all the things out there these days, I think seeing your doctor is an excellent idea.

lol! mm ur worrying 2 much ;)

well, it sounds really heavy! You could go see a doctor about it, i know it's a big WHOAH! answer, but mine used to be as heavy, and I started taking birth control pills to regulate my periods and not to make then as heavy. It really helped! I recommend the Combined Pill. But you should see your doc before going on it, because the pill leads to heart problems

if you are a normal healthy young teen and your are not having any major cramping with your period there is no reason to go to a dr.

however, if you are sexually active or are planning on becoming sexually active then YES, you do need to go see a gynecologist.

they say you should have a check up down there once a year...but really after you start having sex.

i beg to differ...unless i dont have problems...i dont usually go every 2 years. depends how comfortable you are with your gyno. i had to have mine with my family doctor. :S

if u have heavy periods..make sure you get lots of iron...dark greens and meat!

hope this helped

I got my period since 1998 and i never been gone to the gyno for that .....lol

i dont think theres a need to see a gyno when you first start your period.
everyone has different types of periods, and i've had a heavy period for years. i went to the doctor once about my anemia and she said having a heavy period was normal, it just depended on your genetics.
if you want to lessen your period then you can take the pill, also prescribed as a contraceptive for pregnancy and bad skin.
i think your just worrying, your period seems fine, if the length or heaviness of it bothers you then get it checked up, but otherwise i dont think the money is worth spending.
