Answers: What are the reasons to be late and what are the health risks?

A menstrual cycle is the result of a very carefully timed hormone ballet, with each one coming in at the correct time or things get out of sync. It could simply be you have had a hormonal hiccup- they happen to most women at some point at least once in life. The cycle can be thrown off by stress, illness, change of diet or exercise habits, or medication. It is also possible that you missed a pregnancy, and the cycle hasn't caught up yet. Just because there is a conception does not mean there will automatically be a pregnancy or a full term infant. Many conceptions don't progress even after implantation. But even a few days of HCG are enough to delay matters and make you late to start. At this point it would be difficult to say exactly what is going on. The only thing you really can do is wait and see what happens in the next month. If you skip a second cycle, then it's time to visit the GP. At the moment there are not health risks physically to you from waiting. If your period decides to arrive, though, expect it to be heavier than usual, with some nasty looking clots and brownish flow. That's the usual with a late period. There will be no way to be certain why it was delayed, and not worth your mental health to play that game with yourself. If it was a miss, nothing you did influenced it one way or the other. There is nothing that can be done, beginnings are delicate times and much can and does go wrong. If it's hormonal, your body can reset itself most of the time. And if you need the doctor to help matters along, then that's fine too. It happens. Don't drive yourself nutty in the waiting.

Have you gone to a doc? It could be anything... from stress to just fluctuations in your cycle...

you may just be missing a period, i know ,me my sister & best friend was all a week late this last time i just put it down to the weather? but i aint no doctor. just try not to worry & calm down then you will probably come on. if you are getting worried i would see a doctor, it may have something to do with the contaception you are using. have you changed it recently?

Is your cycle usually very regular? Are you taking different medication? Are you under a lot of stress? Are you eating right? Are you generally healthy these days?
