Answers: I'm 11 years old and I'm really scared about having my first period. I don't know how I should ask my mom about when she had her first period.

Why not try setting up a special time for you and your mom, ask her or send her a hand made invitation to join you for a cup of hot chocolate and a conversation. Tell her that the time has come that you need her to tell you about having your periods, and what you have to expect. Ask her things about pads verses tampons, ask her about pms, ask her about how old she was when she started and make the conversation about your periods not about sex that way both of you should be comfortable. She has been waiting for this conversation to happen since the day you were born, she knows that you need to know and at your age that conversation has to happen soon. If you set if up like a mother daughter date type setting, like I said over a cup of hot chocolate or glass of eggnog, you get the picture, set the stage and then let the conversation happen, but if you don't ask you won't get the answers, and just by reading this Q & A section a lot of young girls really need to talk to their mothers more, and I really don't understand why they feel ashamed of themselves, there is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about, every woman on the planet at one time had to start their period, so we have all been their and as mothers we know that we have to pass that information down to our daughters, she is probably anxiously waiting for you to ask, so go do it. Good Luck

There is nothing to be scared of. Most women have periods and it is completely normal for girls to be worried about srating her periods. You could ask your mum in private if it is embarassing for you to talk to her about it in public.

Don't worry.

It's not scary at all.
