Yeast Infection or something else?!

Question: So here's the dealio,

I had some symptoms of a yeast infection...I never had one before, so I ignored it. Hoped it'd just...I dunno...go away. It didnt. So I made an appointment to see a gyno, but thats not until January.

In the meantime I bought this 1 dose over the counter medicine. Immediately upon inserting the stuff, the itch inside my va-jay-jay intensified 1000-fold for the next hour. I was squirming and nearly howling at the moon it was so bad. This was last night.

Today, after leaking like a broken facet, I began having a seriously foul odor. Its akin to a dead body. I called my gyno but they're fully booked until my appointment in January.

I didn't think yeast infections gave you a foul odor. Has anyone had that with a yeast infection?

Or is this some kind of bacterial thing? And if so, what do I do to keep myself sane until my appointment?

You have my utmost sympathy...sounds like a yeast infection.
I have had a few and they are quite miserable.
Those one dose OTC things are too strong for me...I use the 3 day treatment with the included soothing itch creme.
If you are not sure you could...
Talk to the nurse at your doc's office. Explain your symptoms and she may be able to direct you to a better OTC treatment or have the gyno call in a script. Since it is the weekend, perhaps your gyno's answering service can have your doc call you....one of them in the office has to be on call for all the prego mommies

Or find walk-in clinic to go to. They will be listed in the phone book. Good Luck, I hope you are feeling better soon.

YEAST

you should go to a doctor to make sure..you won't be sure unless you visit a doctor

most likly, if its your first one see your doctor immeditly!
it could get out of hand

is there a doc in the house?? haha anyways just go to the doctors lady.

Yes - yeast infections can definitely smell... that is one way of knowing you have one. I really can't believe a doctor won't see you if you have an infection... Call your primary care...

well i'm not sure just go to the hospital for either an urgent care or emergency appointment! you can't party on new year's eve if you're itching!

Sometimes vaginal yeast infections do have an odor with the discharge, and sometimes people just cannot use monostat .. I get yeast infections all the time, and monostat always makes things worse .. I know there is nothing more uncomfortable than a problem in that area ..

its important to keep an eye on the color of the discharge
If its a bacterial you need to take care of it immediately (green/brown are colors to watch out for) because if you dont you can get real sick, Ive had it happen to a friend.

I would try to find a dr that has openings ... waiting till january is not only going to ruin your holiday but that is a long time to have something down there untreated. Even going to planned parenthood could be an option .. they provide gyno services.

try to eat a lot of yogurt .. and take acidophilis pills .. i know it sounds yucky .. but dipping a tampon in 100% natural plain yogurt and inserting it provides almost immediate relief and if its yeast kills the bacteria..

if it persists and gets worse .. go to the ER ... you dont want it to get out of control!

If it gets too bad, go into a walk-in clinic or an emergency room. I'm not a doctor, but I'm quite certain having an infection for a prolonged time is not healthy.
Seriously, though. You need medical treatment.

Im like 80 percent thatit is a yeast infection. And yes it does have a bad smell and it itches and you have a white discharge.

Okay, if your car started making weird noises would you just hope and pray it would go away?

If anything changes with your body, you need to get to the doctor asap. Especially when it has to do with something in that area.

Usually when you apply those otc medications for yeast, it will itch and tingle in some way. But the foul odor worries me. That sounds to me like something more severe.

If you are having unprotected sex, it could be something else.

I would try to get an appointment with a planned parenthood or some place such as that in your area. Some clinic where you can get help much sooner. I don't think this is something that can wait. Have you explained the severity of this to your gyno?

You may have been allergic to the creme you inserted since it was the one-dose stuff. It's pretty strong. I always got the 7-day creme. You should be able to tell if it's yeast by the discharge and severe itching. Bacterial smells fishy and has a discharge but not as itchy. Again, if you were allergic to the creme it might also cause a bad odor. Call the dr. and ask to talk to a nurse. a yeast infection can be quite unbearable due to intense itching, then you get raw and then your pee makes it burn more everytime you go.

Yes it can be yeast and it can make you itch more for a little while when you use the treatment. you should have some sort of releif bye tommorrow if it is a yeast infection, if not bye monday, then it probably isnt yeast.

my guess would be if it were yeast the meds would have instantly helped; however yeast may cause a fowl odor, and they are real itchy! have you taken antibotics lately? large amounts will cause yeast infections and you can get if from your partner; who may or may not have signs. if it is a burning and itchy, red.. painful with sex, it could be an bacterial infection, like gonorrhea; which can be treated with antibotics

Go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaginitis

Vaginitis can be caused by yeast infections.

My yeast infections always make me smell kinda sourish - like old milk. The medicine at the drug store NEVER made me howl at the moom! Idea: check for a forgotten tampon. I used to work for a gyno and would hear this story - dead body smell, brown discharge and...lookie here! I would say to go to an urgent care or something NOW if the tampon idea doesn't work. There are nasty vag infections that WON'T wait until January!

Vaginal Yeast Infections - Topic Overview
Is this topic for you?
Other problems (like bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis) can cause vaginal symptoms that may seem like a yeast infection. If you need help determining which problem you have, see the Check Your Symptoms section of the topic Vaginal Problems.

What is a vaginal yeast infection?
A vaginal yeast infection means that too many yeast cells are growing in the vagina. These infections are very common. Although they can bother you a lot, they are not usually serious. And treatment is simple.

What causes a vaginal yeast infection?
Most yeast infections are caused by a type of yeast called Candida albicans.

A healthy vagina has many bacteria and a small number of yeast cells. The most common bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, help keep other organisms-like the yeast-under control.

When something happens to change the balance of these organisms, yeast can grow too much and cause symptoms. Taking antibiotics sometimes causes this imbalance. The high estrogen levels caused by pregnancy or hormone replacement therapy can also cause it. So can certain health problems, like diabetes or HIV infection.

What are the symptoms?
A yeast infection causes itching or soreness in the vagina and sometimes causes pain or burning when you urinate or have sex. Some women also have a white discharge that looks a little like cottage cheese and has no odor.

These symptoms are more likely to occur during the week before your menstrual period.
