Any test can be false-positive or false-negative. Some factors you may want to consider regarding skipped periods:

1. Pregnancy.
2. Recent miscarriage or abortion.
3. Loss/gain of 10+ pounds. Affects hormones.
4. Recently-begun exercise program. Affects hormones.
5. Illness. From common colds to ovarian cysts to adrenal disorders, these can affect hormones.
6. Medications. Especially birth control medications.
7. STDs.
8. Stress. Even everyday stress can affect those adrenals, which then affect your hormones.

You are experiencing several of the above situations with your weight gain, exercise, birth control, and stress, so your physician may be correct.

If you are two months pregnant, the fetus is about the size of a Nutter Butter cookie (I know, weird analogy, but it works) and isn't responsible for your "gut" getting bigger.

Regarding urine pregnancy tests, some women don't produce enough HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) (the "pregnancy hormone") in their urine for it to be detectable, so a serum (blood) HCG test is more accurate.

Yes they can be wrong
