Standing naked in front of a doctor--is this bizarre?!
Question: My friend told me that she went to a new doctor (not a gyn!) who asked her to take all of her clothes off and put on a gown.
He then undid the gown in the back and it dropped leaving her naked. Has anyone ever heard of this? She was mortified. He explained that he needed to check her whole body for any abnormal moles or skin conditions.

The only time I have even heard of females being naked in front of a doctor is at their gyn. But, even then I understand that you are covered up and not left completely naked.
Sounds strange. No nurse? Sends up red flags.
He was checking her spine for curvature. When I was in Jr high, the school nurse would check the girls for this once a year.

has never happened to me. tell you friend to go with her instincts if she felt uncomfortable it was for good reason. most doctors do check for moles. but they only do this if they ask and you say that you have a mole that is conserning you. i have never heard of this and it does sound mortifying. oh and usually after a certain age a girl usually stops seeing male doctors due to feeling uncomfortable. i would suggest a doctor changee
uhme...Ok. I'm 15 and went in for a physical. The doc told me to get into a gown, told me to lay down and he just moved the gown around and told me to lean forward so he could see my back. That was it. Maybe the doctor was a pervert lol. Or he just really did want to check but i don't know..... He could have just asked her if she noticed anything like a new mole...Sorry iwasn't much help :s
If a male doctor is with a female patient, for any kind of physical, a nurse must be present. If a doctor is alone in the room with your friend, and no nurse, report him, this is against the law. Doctors, do with a nurse present, untie the back of the gown and let it drop, so they can check certain areas on the body.

I think she should tell her mum, either the doctor WAS checking for moles etc.. or hes a perve, and should be fired before doing anyhting wrong.

This definitely doesn't sound right. This doc is leaving himself wide open if he routinely does this with his other female patients. The fact that he does not have a nurse there when he is viewing his patient naked is bizarre.
Reminds me of the endocrinologist I was seeing monthly and he kept insisting on doing breast exams. He was the doctor so I assumed he was doing what he medically thought needed to be done. After the 2nd time I caught on and told him I do my own exams or have my gyne. do them. He seemed really annoyed. I wrote a letter and reported him to the Board Of Medical Examiners.
No not really, i have been to the hospital before and i had to be completely naked for a back x-ray except i had a gown on, i didnt mind this since it was basically for the better of my health, doctors need patients to strip down sometimes to do a better evaluation or else they could miss something potentially dangerous.
