How long can you leave your nipple piercing out before its closed?!

Question: I have to go in for surgery and must take out my nipple ring and was wondering how long I have to put it back in...Don't know how long I'll be in the hospital and don't imagine 1 of the nurses would help me get it back in...I've had it for over a year...

Easier solution!!!!!

Go see your piercer and ask them if they have any PTFE (or any other kind of medical grade plastic jewlery). These little plastic barbells can either be custom fitted or you can take advantage of the fact that most nipples fit on a regular 5/8 inch tongue bar. You can't wear any metal in your piercings, but most hospitals won't say a peep about plastic

Leaving your piercings out is an unecessary risk for nipples (unless you're getting a breast augment in which case ask the doc). Its not like you're going to aspirate plastic nipple rings if they have to intubate you.

If you choose to take the risk of leaving your jewlery out, you'd be surprised how willing some nurses are to help you get it back in place. My mom is an RN at a surgery center and has trained all of the rest of the staff to take jewlery in and out while patients are still asleep. Not all nurses are so forward-thinking, but you may find one. Doesn't hurt to ask. If nothing else you can have whoever's at the hospital with you put them back in.

But to make life easier check your piercer for plastic jewlery

No offience but you actully pierced your Nipple Pierced? On your breast?! And Your A girl?!

Ouchy!!!!!!!!!(I didnt even know they did that)
Hope you get better and have a great surgry,

Merry Christmas

This varies from perosn to person and also how long you have had the piercing. Never remove a piercing for more than a few minutes if it is less than a year and a half to two years old, simply as a precaution. If it is old enough the best way to check is to remove your piercing in the morning when you get up and periodically (every four hours) slip the jewelry back in and see if it's stiff or still loose. If it stays loose throughout the entire day add an hour or two to how long the jewelry is out. If you can go 16 or more hours without it getting stiff I would then leave it out over night (your body heals better at night when you are resting) and try to put it in first thing in the morning. If it's stiff then you know what you should not leave it out overnight, but during the day. This is the best way I can think to do this as it works VERY well for new (but old enough) piercings and stretched piercings.

when i took mine out i could still get it back in for a few days, but if you go much longer than that it may hurt badly to put it back in. ask the dr if you can get a sylicone spacer that you can wear during the surgery, and if not you should find a friend or family member who can help you get it back in as soon as possible, otherwise you may have to have it re-pierced, and if you leave them out for good, the do sometimes leave small scars. hope this info helped

I had surgery 6 months after getting both of my nipples done. I actually went to where I got pierced, and had them take the rings out for me, I left them out for 4 days, and returned to the peircing shop for them to put them back in. I still had the original rings, so they needed to be squeezed in. If yours are the screw type, you should be able to put them in yourself, just use a little water to moisten the hole.

I have left my rings out for up to 6 months with no closure. But each person is different.
