Can you smoke cigarettes while on birth control?!

Question: My friend's doctor told her she had to quit smoking cigarettes or the birth control won't work. Is her doctor just trying to get her to stop? Or does she really need to quit for the birth control to work?

no shes really does because my friend got pregant cause that didnt work soo she had to quit anyways for her baby

I think it is true, plus it increases your risk of heart attack and other health issues.

Check out this site:

Cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects from oral contraceptive use. This risk increases with age and heavy smoking (15 or more cigarettes per day) and is quite marked in women over 35 years of age.

Women who use oral contraceptives should be strongly advised not to smoke. More specifically, risks increase for heart attacks, blood clots, stroke, liver cancer, and gallbladder disease, although the risk is very small in healthy women without underlying risk factors.

I don't think the doctor just wants her to stop smoking, he has valid reasons for telling her to quit smoking in order to use birth control. There are many risks involved, especially if she is over 35 too.

Good luck :)

NO do not smoke anytime
