As a recurrent UTI suffferer, I know how not fun they can be. The most important thing to do, and I hope the doc told you this, is to make sure that you go pee before and after sex, to help prevent bacteria being pushed into your urinary tract. That is a major cause of UTI. Other than that, yeah, definetly drink lots of water, some people say cranberry juice or pills help prevent them or get rid of them. Ad try to cut back on things that could irritate your UTI, like tea, coffee, or alchohol.

I had the same problem, but as long as I get up to pee immediately after having sex, I'm usually okay. The cranberry juice and pro-biotics ideas didn't help me at all, but I fould I got far-fewer UTIs when I stopped drinking soda (anything with caffiene or carbonation - just stopped, cold-turkey). Now I drink only water and tea, etc, and I haven't had a UTI in years. Whenever I do get a flare-up, I can usually notice right away and take the OTC medications (AZO, Cystex, there are a lot more) and the symptoms are gone in an hour and I never get a full-blown UTI.

Good luck finding what works for you. UTIs are excrutiating, so I hope you find it quickly! =)

Those are both very good answers for you. Drink a lot of water, pee before and always after sex. Cranberry promotes urinary tract health, so either start drinking lots of cranberry juice or get the cranberry pills because those are really helpful. I always take some after sex and it makes that I'm-getting-a-UTI feeling go away within a couple hours. My doc also said that making sure you keep down there try (she even went so far as to suggest blow drying on cool after showers), wiping front to back after going to the bathroom, and having sex in female-dominate positions or laying flat on your back helps reduce the friction that irritates your urinary tract. oh, cut back on caffeine too.

I really hope that helped because I can't imagine how horrible it would be getting one of those so often.

The vagina is very close to the urethra. During sex, bacteria can be forced into the urethra. If you don't actually have a urinary tract infection, you may simply be having urethral irritation.

You may be experiencing urethral spasms as your urethra attempts to rid itself of the irritating bacteria. As another poster suggested, urinating before and after intercourse may be helpful. You may also want to assure both you and your partner are clean "down there" before sex to limit the amount of bacteria entering your urethra.
