Unfortunately there is nothing really you can do to shorten your periods, particularly not when you have already started your period.

You can do things to help shorten your periods, such as taking evening primrose oil to help regulate your hormones that when in your teens could help shorten, regulate and ease your periods. If you are using tampons then I'd also recommend switching to pads (whether commercial, organic or cloth) or other methods such as menstrual cups or free-flow, this is because tampons are bad for vaginal health and as a result have been shown to make periods heavier and often more painful.

You could look at methods used to induce periods (make periods come early, or bring on late periods) as they may help speed things up, for example masturbation can help increase blood flow and bring about contractions that help push out menstrual flow, drinking parsley tea as parsley can help soften your cervix making it easier for menstrual flow to pass, vitex may also help reduce bleeding - most methods to induce menstruation are perfectly safe, but it's worth researching [ http://www.sisterzeus.com ]

It's a good idea not to use hormonal birth control, at your age it is best you let nature take it's course and learn what is normal for you and your cycle, birth control pills suppress your menstrual cycle making it fit a pattern it makes it go into rather it's normal pattern. It's always a good idea to look at other birth control methods and other methods of dealing with menstrual problems as learning from your normal cycle is a million times more beneficial.

You don't say why you don't want to go through Christmas with your period, although it can be difficult for you if you've only had your period for a few months or years you have to remember that periods are only as good or as bad as you make them, there are a lot of positives to your periods as well as some negatives, and remember most negatives can be delt with - for example trying different menstrual options to see what is more convenient for you (there are over 20 different options, not just tampons or pads), if you suffer menstrual cramps then prevent them with a healthy diet or treat them with things such as clarity sage rubbed lightly into your stomach.

theres not really a way to make them shorter i dont think a long time ago when i got my period i kept pushing on my uterus in a downwards motion and i could feel the blood streaming out everytime i did that my period lasted all of 3 days which is a day less then it's usually on so maybe it worked maybe it didnt all i know is it did help with the cramps

A new oral contraceptive that makes a woman's period shorter and lighter is now on the market.

Loestrin 24 Fe is the first oral contraceptive approved by the Food and Drug Administration that provides 24 days of active hormonal therapy and only four days of placebo pills, compared with traditional 21-day oral contraceptives, which have seven inactive pills. In a clinical trial, women who took Loestrin 24 Fe had periods that averaged less than three days after six cycles.
