Why is it that when you are on your period, you have the urge to urinate more?!

Question: It happens to me every single time I get my period. I always feel like I have to pee, but I actually don't. And when I do go my va-jay-jay hurts when I try to go. I'm only 15. Does this happen to anyone else? And is it normal?

And periods really suck! Because some people get warning signs before they get their period, but I get absolutely nothing!! I just get it, then AFTER my stomach hurts really bad. I had to take like 4 pills for it to go away!! And I can just sit on the toilet sometimes and let it all drip out. I can never go a night without getting it on my underwear or pajamas, sometimes it even goes through to the bedsheets! It sounds heavy, but it really isn't. I want BP because I always have these problems and I get many ovarian cysts, too many for a 15-yr old, but the doc says I'm too young.

So why do periods suck SO BAD?!?!?!?!!!

I am unaware of the scientific reason why when women menstruate we have the urge to urinate more frequently. I do know that uterine (as in the uterus) contractions can cause more frequent bowel movements, so perhaps they also cause bladder contractions that make you feel that urge more than "normal."

The pain you mention concerns me. It shouldn't hurt when you urinate and this is something you really should see an OBGYN or female urologist about (preferably not this doctor you mention in your question).

To address your last point, it sounds like you need a new doctor. 15 is in no way too young to take birth control, especially because you are using it for menstruation control. Some doctors may be reluctant to give it to you because they believe it encourages minors to engage in sexual activity. You need to find a physician that is not so close minded. By the way, you can get birth control now without parental permission so keep that in mind.

I hear ya girl!!! i too have the phantom wee feeling - keeps me up at night - Damn right annoying!!!

its good drink lots of water it helps get the waste out of your system periods DO suck but thats normal

usually it's cause we hold water right before we start.

have your parent take you in and see if you have a bladder infection or something.

I don't like them either.

not sure

because you build up water weight before you menstruate. that's also why your jeans may feel a little tighter. when you rbody realizes you aren't pregnant, you shed the water weight along with the other fun fluids. a good way to help it along is to take midol, because it has a diuretic (caffeine) and will help get rid of the water weight faster.

Just before your period you retain water and then during your period you lose it...so you may feel like you have to pee more. Also, your period is small contractions pushing everything out, which means more pressure on your bladder, so even though it may be empty, you will still feel like you have to go.

Periods do suck.. a lot... I know what you mean about not being able to go a night... it's horrible...

Hmm. I never have an urge to urinate when I have my period, and if it hurts when ou do, then you might have an infection, or you need to change your tampon or pad more often. You are only 15, so yeah, a BP would be 2 soon for you. Yeah, periods do suck, but they're a part of life that we all mut learn to accept. And to make periods suck less, I just try to forget about. Really. It helps.

You know what i wonder the same thing,I get the same thing, feel like I have to pee but don't,I think maybe because we become bloated and everything down there becomes swollen and puts pressure on the blatter causing us to feel the pressure to urinate but we don't have to. Well, you need to change your pad to another brand,I love the ALWAYS with wings the flat ones, the Super are great and cover from front to back and soak up everything without spillage unless you put it on crooked. But you can take birth control for your cramps. Oh the ovarian cysts are a problem, but no your not to young for birth control. Your doctor is a boob, get a new one seriously.

Sheesh, it's life. All girls/women go through it. It sucks, yes. I get no warnings either. I get really bad cramps after the first day, and I have the urge to um..pee a lot, and it leaks a lot too, so no, you're not alone. But hey, I'm not complaining.

There's no answer to your last question. They suck because they suck, that's just it.

Live with it, accept the fact that you're a woman, love your uterus and be proud that you have it. Sheesh, look at guys. You wouldn't want to be them even if it did mean your period would go away. Either that or get pregnant. Yeah, I thought so.
