Do you think your birth control pills can mess with your mood?!

Question: Sometimes I feel much more like frantic or stressed when I'm taking them... is this normal?

I absolutely believe that bc pills mess with moods. I started taking bc pills when I was 21 (I'm 27 now) for bad cramping and heavy periods. A few months later I was diagnosed with depression and put on meds for it. I had been depressed prior to going on bc pills, so I didn't think there was a connection. Over the years, I have struggled with periods of severe depression and anxiety despite the fact that I've been on several different meds and in therapy. Three months ago I went off the bc pills because my husband and I were thinking of trying to have a baby. After about a month, I noticed that my mood was so much better. I wasn't nearly as depressed or anxious as I had been while on bc pills. I even started losing weight without trying (I had gained a lot of weight after going on bc pills and antidepressants...I thought the weight gain was from antidepressants). I read on the internet on a few different sites that bc pills can cause mood swings, especially in people already prone to things like depression and anxiety.

Hope this helps.

duh.
it's a hormone thing

yes, but for some it makes their moods better. It is different for everyone. You should talk to your doctor and maybe go on another form of birth control

yes thankfully that does not happen to me

birth control pills are hormones. and any time hormones fluctuate, it effects mood. if you're feeling too out of sorts, talk with your doctor. you may need to switch types or dosages.

Hormone levels affect your mood.
Birth control pills contain the same hormones.
Different pills have different levels of hormones so you may need to try another brand.
The Nuva Ring is a hormone based contraceptive that you simply insert on Day 1 of your cycle and remove 21 days later, after a 7 day gap you insert a new one. It uses much lower doses of hormones and may be a good solution.
If you continue to have problems you may need to consider other methods of birth control with your doctor.

HELL YES! The ones I started on were making me very very depressed. I even said no to a job that was paying 20buck an hr because I was so depressed.Currently still unemployed...anyhow, yes they can mess with ur mood
