It sounds like your friend is wearing a tampon just before her period is due so that she doesn't get caught out and leak on her pants - is this correct?

It's not very good to wear a tampon when she doesn't have her period because there isn't enough moisture in there and the tampon might scrape the walls or be difficult to pull out. Also, if it does scrape the walls, it can cause an infection. There's also the risk of TSS, which is increased when your are wearing a tampon that doesn't suit the flow - in your friend's case, the tampon doesn't suit the flow because there isn't a flow!

If she is really worried about starting her period, she can wear a panty-liner and then once it starts she can put in a tampon. This is much safer!

You can get TSS

I have no idea why it would be bad; why tell her something like that if you don't have a good reason??? Presuming she changes the tampon regularly, there's no more risk between periods than during one.

they have panty liners for that...tampons can be dangerous and should only be used when necessary

it is because
1) you can get tss and
2)without the proper amount of moisturefor the tampon to soak up the tampon can get stuck and can be painful to pull out because of it being too dry.. even with the discharge.

She shouldn't be having discharge inbetween periods. If she is, that could be a sign of a yeast infection or other problem such as vaginitis.

Some discharge is normal, but if she feels the need to wear a tampon, it souns like she's having too much to be normal.

What you've probably heard is that tampons shouldn't be used on a regular basis because it can cause Toxic Shock Syndrome. While TSS does exist and is serious, there have been major changes in the materials used to make tampons since TSS was a major concern, and the number of reported TSS cases has dropped to under 10 per year in the past decade.

I don't agree that tampons are "dangerous." They just have to be changed often and not forgotten after the period's over. There is a risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, but not a high risk when used properly.

As for using them in-between periods -- I don't think it matters -- they still have to be changed and remembered!

Tell her to use a pad, but is she has enough discharge to have to use a tampon then she should go to the doctor.

mainly because you can get TSS... but anyways, what's the point to use it IN BETWEEN periods?

bye!!

Vaginal discharge is normal and helps flush out bacteria n such. It needs to be able to flow out. Between periods there isn't enough moisture to flow with the tampon in and the bacteria can stay and flourish. Unscented pantyliners r a much better choice if she is concerned about getting 'caught' when her period starts.

u shouldnt use tampons when ur not bleeding. if she has discharge she should use a thin pantyliner. if its alot or it has a foul odor she should c a doctor
