Since your glands are swollen it could be a sign of an infection, such as strep throat. But, it could also be tonsilites, which the doctor will give you antibiotics for both conditions. As far as helping the pain, the only things I can suggest is sore throat medications, and sometimes gargling with warm salt water will help, temporarily. Sorry, you're so sick.

Take an anti-inflammatory medicine like Tylenol, and drink plenty of water, even though it hurts. And get to the doctor as soon as possible. If it is a strep infection, it could spread and become very serious.
Get as much rest as possible, and eat bland, soft foods. If you have a fever, stay away from dairy products.
Get better soon, okay? I know how strep is, I've gotten it one too many times.
Might even just be the beginning of a cold. Just some swollen glands. Just drink lots of juice and get plenty of rest.
Take a teaspoon of Turmeric (from the spice section of the supermarket) and mix it with a tablespoon of honey in a cup of really warm water.
If you drink that, you won't need the doctor.
