Irregular Period.?!

Question: I'm 15, I started when I was 11. Lately, I've been kind of irregular. I just want to know if the is weird for a girl who has had her period for more than 4 years. I would ask my mom, but last time I did, she brought my dad into it. At the time she said it was due to stress. It's only happend three or four times. I'm not sexually active, so I know that I'm not pregnant. It's only started being irregular this year. I feel slightly strange asking, but I want answers.

If your a professional, please answer. If not, I'd still appreciate some ideas, but could you state whether you are professional. I know this is weird, but I really don't want to get freaked out over this.

The more that I think about it, three or four times sounds bad. I mean, that's almost half of the year. Gosh. I'm kinda scared.

It is very normal at your age for periods to still be irregular b/c your body is still developing, so don't worry unless you go >3 months without one, then see a doc. (RN)

yea this is happening to me too. ive had a regular cycle ever since i first got my period (in 5th grade) until now (im now a jr in HS). just recently, my period's been irregular. but it's normal. it's normal to have an irregular flow because our body's still changing. ur irregular flow could also be from stress too cuz i think that's what's happening to me too.
hope this helps....

Having irregular periods can be caused by a number of things such as significant weight gain or loss (although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems), over-exercise, poor nutrition (or a diet too high in carbohydrates), smoking, certain medications, caffeine, excessive alcohol use (interfering with how the liver metabolizes estrogen and progesterone), eating disorders, increased stress, PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome or estrogen dominance), uterine abnormalities such as fibroids, cysts, polyps, endometriosis and hormonal imbalances.

I would recommend that you try to talk to your Mum again and let her know that you are scared and concerned that your usually regular period has become irregular. Ask your Mum to perhaps contact your family doctor to find out whether this is considered normal at your age or whether it might be necessary for you to get an appointment for further evaluation.

Hope this helps. Good luck :)
