Could the Mirena IUD have caused weight gain and mood swings?!
Question: I got the Mirena IUD 3-4 weeks ago- and I have put on about 7 pounds- for NO reason at all.... also- a lot of water retention- My ankles are swollen- and my stomach began to look like I was 5 months pregnant- it was sooo scary. And I was moody.- Like wicked- moody. I have nothing else to accredit this to- I worked out- ate well- even thru the holidays!!! Has anyone else had side effects from this? I got freaked out and had it removed today. I feel a little better just knowing it's gone.

I gained 10lbs with Mirena and had significant hair loss. I had it taken out. My doctor told me that some people are very sensitive to horomones - perhaps you're in the same boat. Once I took it out, I lost the 10lbs within 60 days.
I had problems like that when I was on the depo provera shot. I was freaking insane and gaining weight. Same with the pill but to a lesser extent. It was the hormones. I had a para guard IUD. I loved it! I lost most of the weight and felt like myself. Not some overly moody, screaming snotty, crying witch!
I have had Mirena for over a year. No problems at all. I couldn't take the pill because it made me wicked.
