You have a higher risk of getting breast cancer, but it isn't a definite. Make sure you do a monthly breast self-exam and, when you see your doctor, ask about what you can do to decrease your chances. My grandmother died of breast cancer so I had a baseline mammogram done at an early age. 14 is a bit young to have a mammogram, but you are definitely not too young to start doing a monthly self exam. Ask your mom to show you how to perform this exam. She will definitely be glad you are starting early with the preventive medicine. Good luck : )

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's not definite that you will get breast cancer but your chances have increased highly.

Well, cancer (of any kind) runs a risk in everyone but the risk is MUCH higher when your family has a line of it in your family. I wouldn't be too stressed out about it. Usually, the risk gets lower through generation.

Well, No one knows for certain.
You may have a higher risk than others as there is a history in your family.

With new high-tech gadgets these days im sure there will be a cure anyway.

But don't worry about it. You don't want to spend your whole life worrying and you might not even get it. But, to be on the safe side, get checked regularly.

It is not definite. It depends on what genetics you got. One thing that will help alot, tho. Mammograms. Yearly. They say starting at age 40, but if there is a chance you could be at risk, then you can start as early as 16 or 18. The trick is to go to the same place each time so they can compare this year's to last year's. It is not real painful, takes less than an hour and in most places is pretty reasonably priced. Might be worth talking to your mom or trusted adult about. Don't worry! Women are surviving it more and more each year. It is not the death sentence it used to be!
