Does anyone know what the side effects of acutane are on a woman's eggs?!
Question: I know that it is very dangerous to get pregnant while on acutane, but does acutane damage a woman's eggs, therefore creating permanent damage and potentially harming a future child? I have been dealing with acne for a long time and have tried just about everything. I would really like to model and am feeling helpless. However, I have already had a stillbirth and am planning on having kids within the next 5-10 years; I would not want to take a medicine to improve my outward appearance that could potentially harm any future children. I have been through the pain of a lost child once and do not want to experience it again, especially if it was the result of a decision like taking acutane. Help????!!!!!

I took accutane when I was 16 (i'm 20 now) for about 5 months, and it was amazing. It cleared my skin right up. The drug itself won't harm your eggs at all. The reason it harms a fetus is because the medicine travels through your blood stream, therefore traveling through your fetus's blood stream. This inhibits fetal development, which causes severe neural development. If you're not planning on having children for 5-10 years, you should be fine. I gave blood like a year after I stopped taking it, and they let you give as long as you have been off of it for 2 months (adequate time to leave the blood stream).
I was on it and it did wonders for my skin. My dermatologist, who went to school at Sloan Kettering in NYC, the top cancer hospital in the world, told me that it only affects a fetus/baby, so that is why you CAN NOT get pregnant while on it. It will have no effect on your eggs.
accutane doesn't actually harm you eggs. it is a very dangerous drug to be on while pregnant. it is the damage it does to a developing fetus that makes it so dangerous. don't worry about it harming you eggs. it doesn't do that to my knowledge. that is why if you are on accutane...then you MUST be on birth control as well. i think it is actually ethically wrong now a days for a physician to prescribe one without the other. go ahead and take it but GET ON BIRTH CONTROL!!! that is a must. babies are born with SEVERE birth defects if moms take it while pregnant. hope that helps.
