Ok...I wonder if I should be worried about this: I am age 45 and female and I?!

Question: have typically had a regular (always either on time or 4-5 days early) period that lasted an average of 4 days. Heavy one day and light the last three. In October of this year (for the first time in my life) I missed my period altogether! I was told that I may be experiencing peri (or pre) menapausal symptoms and not to worry.

Ok...so the next month, as scheduled, I had a normal regular period...quite short though...3 days. THIS month on time, I began to lightly spot....this went on for days where I needed a panti liner and maybe just one tampon for the night or for the day at work....but as of yesterday, the THIRTEENTH DAY of spotting, I began to bleed heavier like a regular/heavy period! It will be two whole weeks of combined bleeding and spotting as of tomorrow. What is the deal? Could it be a polup or a cyst? Or could it be normal peri-menapausal symptoms? My doctor is out of town until next week and I am worried sick until then. Any comforting advice or stories?

Hi, Im 46 and have been experiencing similar and I think, talking to lots of people older than me, that during peri menopausal time, ANYTHING goes! Last year I started with missing THREE periods and I thought Oooh is that IT!! I was having hot flushed and thought this must be IT! Then, out of the blue my periods came back, EVERY two weeks, now I havent had one for a month, and not sure whats going to happen next (all the fun of being a woman!) I think I did spot and bleed for a couple of weeks too at one point, so Ive just come to accept that this is the inevitable at our age! I did go to the doctors and insist on a hormone test which did show up that my oestrogen levels were dropping and FSH levels were raised (sure signs of menopausal) Anyway I wouldnt worry if I were you, Im sure it will all go back to normal again soon, and then it starts again!!!! Hope this helps!

i think your heading for the menopause. i think your worrying needlessly. so take it easy. good luck.

My mom did this with her pre-menopausal symptoms. She finally had a partial hysterectomy. I would not worry, unless you were going through a pad within the hour and it does not slow down.

It's hard not to stress when your body is obviously in a weakened state and you don't know for sure why! I think it's imperative that you have yourself checked out. Everyone's cycles are different, so you may be doing yourself a big favor by finding out for sure what is happening. Does your doctor have anyone filling in? Maybe you could get a referral to someone who is available now.
Good luck!

I hate to tell you, but it definately sounds like menopause to me. I went through that already. I haven't had a period in 4 1/2 yrs now. Wait till you get the hot flashes, those are the worst. your back and your ears feel like they are on fire. Sometimes when I was at home, I would strip down to practically nothing. It's horrible, but you are at the right age and the first sign is the sporatic periods. Good luck to you, but just keep looking at the big picture:NO MORE PERIODS AND CRAMPS! YEAH!!!

If you've been busy, that might explain why you didn't menstruate normally. Not having enough fluid to flush out your uterus is reason enough to make you miss your period. It's just that simple. I have an awful time in the summer when the heat and humidity go up. This lack of fluid seems characteristic of lots of women who worry something is wrong with their health, when all they needed to do was drink more water and get more fluid into their system.
If you have menstruated more than 3 days, that's more than enough time to flush out your uterus. I myself, have a heavy period and I have a hard time putting the brakes on my menstrual flow, having flushed out so much fluid I have created an imbalance where I can no longer retain my water.
Along with water and iron, vitamins and minerals, I have flushed out sodium and potassium that would make it possible for me to retain my water. By getting some orange juice or a sports drink I can replace a healthy sodium balance and get my menstrual cycle to stop. I am heavy, so I get a glass on the 3rd day, and another tall glass the next day. It should have slowed down, maybe turned brown and become rather on-again/off-again after the first glass, and then become even less by the second glass. If this is not your experience, by all means, drink more.
I encourage you to take it slowly and allow your system to adjust to the added sodium. It's going to make you terribly thirsty and you may feel some bloating. Try drinking a little bit at a time so as not to flush out the sodium. You can always go back for more later. Take some acetaminophen an hour earlier to prevent cramping or the cramps will make you heavy again. Don't take aspirin, it will thin your blood and make you menstruate again.
You should be on an edgy high after so much blood loss, so it may make you feel sleepy so don't let that upset you. After a couple of days you should feel like yourself again, so don't do too much and rest up a bit. Get some B vitamins and iron, you're sure to be anemic, but if you're not up to it right now, I understand. It's all for the best and to get you feeling better.
I hope you feel much better.
