Is my Doctor looking for something?!

Question: I see a pediatrician (I'm 13) and I have seen her ever since I was 4, but whenever I see her she always looks like she's looking for something on me. She just kind of looks at me. What can she tell by looking at me? My friend (who see's her also) say's that she could be seeing if your flushed, or pale or something but we're clueless and curious.

Be Serious. Most ideas gets best answer! Also, don't be afraid to put some medical term in there (I can google it) if you are a doctor or a nurse......Thank you!

And happy new year!

to see if you look healthy
to see if your develpoing
to check you are not too pale
or to red
because they are a doctor, they are meant to look at people
to see how tall you are
to see if you have any cuts or bruises
to see if you look overweight
or underweight
if you are clean
if you are spotty or have acne or summing
to see how you changed since your last visit

thats all i can think of lol

melanoma

I think your friend is right.

I would also avoid any doctor who does an exam without looking at you.

If your doctor didn't look at you, I'd be worried. There are many many many things you "see" when you see a person. The condition of their skin, eyes, hair, whether they are pale or flushed, are they sweating, are there any moles, freckles, bruises, scrapes, bites, acne, that needs to be examined further. Are there any swollen places? It's a normal and general check. Kinda like your dr looking in your ears or at your throat. She's just checking to see if anything looks out of whack.

Most medical professionals start out their assessment of a patient by forming a general impression of them. With training you can tell and start to form a medical opinion just by looking at the patient. Don't worry, your doctor is just doing her job. Answer any questions she has openly and honestly, this will help you out in the long run.

She is making a general observation of your appearance. She's looking for changes in your skin color, blemishes, bruises, moles, markings, your posture, etc...Basically, you are a specimen and she is observing you, that's all. If you're that curious, ask her next time you see her what exactly she's looking for. It's not a dumb question, and you'll get your answer.
