Mum trying to lose weight?!

Question: My mum wants to lose weight and i am trying to help her with it. She weights around 62kg and is 5'1" and is 40 yrs old. Today we started going for a walk, and we went for 30 mins. Is that a good time to start off with? She is not fit, but having said that she isnt absolutely unfit either. Her aim is to lose around 5kg. How long before you think she will see a difference, and how long do you think she should start her walks off? 30 mins or an hour? She is also starting to drink lots of water.

All the latest studies encourage women to walk 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week. It might not cause her to lose the 5 kilos but it will make her healthy and energetic. A good not too strict diet that accompanies such walk might do the trick (no starches, no sweets is the main issue).
