You don't want a hysterectomy. It's one of the worst possible things you can do to yourself at a young age. You go through menopause, which is highly unpleasant.

I know periods are not fun to go through, but they serve a purpose. They're part of being a woman. The whole new thing of women trying to get rid of their periods is actually NOT HEALTHY AT ALL! Not to mention sad. By trying to stop your periods you open yourself up to a higher risk of a lot of ills. I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) which causes lack of periods. When I tell people this, they get jealous, but it really isn't anything to be jealous about. One of the things I have higher risk for because of it, for example, is endometrial cancer. Among other things. By trying to stop your period completly you're only opening up a can of worms that can cause all sorts of problems in the long run.

The easist thing to do is talk to your OB/GYN about getting on a birth control pill that will help you regulate your period- maybe making it shorter or less painful. Smell can be changed by having a good diet. For cramps, always have a heating pad and a cup of tea, particularly chamomile. They work wonders. I also highly recommend the Diva Cup ( http://www.divacup.com/ ) over pads and tampons. I LOVE my Diva Cup! :)

Birth control.

I got the birth control implant called Implanon, which lasts for 3 years, and I haven't had one since.

i dont think you can "get rid" of them, just wait for menopause. lol
you could take yasmin, tho. that helps.

Depo provera or seasonale birth control.
they typically stop periods or at least make them less frequent.

birth control can reduce the frequency of your periods, just ask ur doc.

birth control shot

ok well u can take the pill or any type of birth control to help with it

the only way to get rid of it is to get a hysterectomy

that is the ONLY way

to lessen the pain, stress, etc, use birth control

No no no, bad thing to get rid of it. Once your period is gone, so is your chance of having kids. Just go on birth control, it helps ease the discomforts. The smell you'll just have to deal with, but there are scented pads, like Always. I use those and they're awesome.

Hysterectomy would be it. But then your hormones go all goofy and stuff. Your uterus is what makes you a woman!

Sometimes if you are on the pill you can skip the 'inactive' pills that allow you to have your period. I tried this and I ended up having less periods, but when I did have them they lasted over 2 weeks! So that wasn't good either!

Sorry. It is just something we are cursed with!

I'm not sure that you can get rid of them entirely in a safe manner. They are a part of normal body function. However, there are birth control methods that can take you down to have 3 or 4 a year. The best thing to do would be visit with a gynecologist to see what their best suggestion is for helping you live with your period. Discuss your options with your doctor.

You could get a hysterectomy, but the downside is that you might not enjoy sex anymore (or not as much), you might have problems with incontinence, you'll spend a year recovering, and if you have your ovaries removed too, you could have even more problems. Better would be to have the uterine lining cauterized, which stops it from working. Alternately, if you want to be minimally invasive and retain your fertility, you could get an IUD like the Mirena, which will likely stop your periods. Or you could take the birth control pill Lybrel, which eliminates periods altogether. These reversible, non-invasive techniques are likely better than the ones that require surgery, a lot of money, and are irreversible.

A hyster will do it. . . .good luck finding a doc who'll do it just to get rid of your cycle.

I agree it's an awful thing to go through. But it's part of being a women.

nothing that healthy for you..unless ur 50ish

a dr will not perform a hysterectomy for normal female function, sounds like a psychologist is in order.

birth control or some kind of shot.
my friend got it and hasnt gotten it since 8th grade, haha

There is a new birth control pill called seasonale that gives you 4 periods a year (http://www.seasonale.com/) You don't say how old you are- a hysterectomy will take out your uterus- no more babies and eliminate periods, but is a serious surgery with possible complications, and no chance of reversal if you decide later you want children.

There are a few birth control pills that claim to cut down on the number of periods a year a woman has. I've heard various accounts of them.

As far as surgeries go a hysterectomy is one option, the other is a procedure called an endometrial ablation. I've looked into the latter myself and have heard good things about it.

The best thing to do is go talk to an OB-GYN and get his or her recommendations. Be prepared for some resistance if you are under 35 though. The reason we have periods is so our bodies will be ready to concieve a child and a lot of doctors have qualms about sterilizing women who are of child-bearing age. Myself and many other women have met resistance from doctors when we went to explore permanent sterilization options.

But yeah, unless you do plan on having children there really is no reason to have periods. The sole purpose of them is to keep the reproduce cycle going in preparation for childbirth. If you don't plan on having children you are basically putting yourself through needless suffering, not to mention needlessly contributing to landfill overflow with pads, tampons, and other menstrual hygiene products.

I don't think there are any of those but if there are I think it'll be best if you don't take any cuz you might have side effects and having periods for girls are normal...I'd suggest one of those pills if guys were having their periods! :)

Get on bith control. A historectomy will only help if they take you ovaries too. They don't usually because it causes problems with estrogen and then you have to start taking pill and depending onyou age no one would preform a historectomy unless it was life threatening. See a doctor and see if they have any advise for you.

good luck with insurance and the hystorectomy. best bet is birth control ask your doctor if they can write the perscription to be active pills then you can only take those when you get to the inactive pills every month throw the pack away and start a new one. It's okay to not have a period you don't need one.

I have an IUS (kind of like an IUD but different) called Mirena. It is a form of birth control that is implanted in the uterus and stays for 5 years. After the first 9-12 months, periods go away completely. It is absolutely wonderful if you really want to get rid of your period (however, in regards to my last answer to your other question, you may want to avoid ending your moontimes as it does make that balance and path that I was talking about a bit more difficult...)

You can get the shot, not sure what it is called but it is a birth control and causes a women to only get a period like every six months or so. My ex girl got the shot and my sister and her best friend ( who was really hot and really glad she was my sisters best friend)

birth control. dont take the pill as you still have to have a period due to it being a combination (progesterone and eastrogen (Sp!?)

either the depo injection or the implant. both are progesterone only and after a few months youwill have no period at all for the entire time that you are on them.of course it comes back if you stop having it.

implant once every 2-3yrs
depo 1nc evry 3 mnths

Not sure if you can naturally end periods altogether. There are several ways to alleviate the pain of a period. Although I think a hysterectomy is a bit extreme, imo. You will be on horomones the rest of your life and have mood swings as well as emotional unstability. No female organs period!

The natural ways to stop really bad cramping are excercise, taking a warm bath and sometimes eating something (as long as it is not dairy, fried food, etc.) The other ways to alter how long your period is, is to take iron pills. Severe cramping is usually due to poor diet and malnourishment. It is also directly related to iron defiency. Take iron pills and also try a multi-vitamin to ensure you get the nutrients you need in your diet.

Another way to alter the timing of your period is birth control. There are several new brands out of the pill which can help. Some of the pills can actually help with other problems like acne as well as bloating. Seasonal in particular is marketing to limit your period to only four times a year. I do not think this is actually healthy if you intend on having children, it may affect that. If not, try that or Yasmeen, orthotricyclen, etc.

A more mild way to rid yourself of pain is using Tylenol, they have a specific type for menstral pain but from personal experience is does not work any better than the regular kind. Stay away from Midol, Pamprin and menstral pain relief pills because you get severe diarrhea even when you do not eat.

I have extremely severe periods which last 5-6 days each. Sometimes they come too early even and I am considering the pill (not Seasonal) my mother does not like this idea because she says it is not safe (not sure if its approved by FDA). I used to just take Tylenol or Ibuprofen to simply bare through the pain. Now I do not take any pills and it is not as bad as it was. I still have severe pains that leave me bed ridden, I do not eat because for whatever reason I throw up whatever I eat, and I tend to get really hot and really cold as well as pass out sometimes. The first day is hell for me. The rest of the days are still days I have cramps but it is no where near as bad on the first or second day. It is awful for me and I intend to get the pill once I get healthcare. I cannot work or do anything first couple days, it is THAT bad so I researched and tried different ways to help aid me in that situation.

Hopefully it is not this bad for you and my tips help you.

You can, but why would you want to? Your period should never be overly painful, it sounds like you may have a minor infection(NOT an STD), or you may have what is called as dysmenorhhea, which is common in young girls and women who have not yet borne children. A simple talk with your doctor will determine your best course of action. It may simply be a prescription of birth control, or an extra dosage of motrin. A hysterectomy would force you to go into menopause much before your time, and is not electively performed.
Look at it this way, in ancient times a woman's period was considered by many to be the height of a woman's power. One great Queen of Ireland was even said to have entire battles cease for her menstruation. It is a natural and cleansing occurence which should be given its due.
For a little extra comfort, you may try drinking a tea of chamomile(easy to find in most health food stores and even some mainstream ones). This herb is known to decrease menstrual difficulties. Good Luck and Many Blessings!
