Question for the gals....?!

Question: I just read online that starting to exercise more than normal can delay your period.....does any one know if this is actually true (I can't seem to find any more information)? I'm late, and starting to freak out about it.

Well, my mom works in medicine and I have thrown this question by her. Apparently what the above answers have said is pretty accurate. Stress, the being around females thing (ie. just moved in with new female roommates) and falling in unison with them, pretty much any major change can throw you for a loop. As well (and I'm not asking, judging, etc) if you do have regular unprotected sex, but are on BC, OR (I know this is presumptive and would have to be a regular occurrence) if you are the sort that likes to swallow.... the extra testosterone that would be "deposited" in your system will be absorbed to one degree or another by your body and will have an effect not on whether or not you get a period, but its severity (lesser cramps, lighter bleeding, etc). So really, there could be a lot that might have effected you recently.

Remember too, that even BC + condom isn't 100% effective. You still have a small window for error if both work exactly as would be expected. So, I suppose you might consider it time to be peeing on a stick if for no other reason than to just give yourself some peace of mind. In the interim though, consider what may have changed in your life which could have effected you this way, and try not to worry.

if u exercise a lot like that can happen, it usually happens for gymnast cuz of constant training

It sure is true. Stress, weightloss/gain, and many other things can affect it too. I wouldn't start worrying quite yet!

No, exercise is good for you and suppose to balance your body and purge out toxins in your body just like your period. If you are healthy, your period should be regular. Period will be late if you are not keeping to a good diet or you are under stress, which is also something that is affecting your body.

But then again, if you only started exercise, your body may be taking sometime to adjust to it so could be a reason that it is late as well.

But to be safe, please use protection next time...

It is true, especially with gymnasts or other athletes...but if you have had unprotected sex you should take a pregnancy test. I haven't heard of anyone just starting to exercise more than they normally do and skipping a period though.

Yes, it can. Stress can delay your period as well. Pretty much any major change in your daily life can affect your cycle. A new man can do it too. Also, if you have been spending more time than normal with another woman or group of women, your body can pick up the hormones they release and will cycle with them in unison. My hormones are very dominating, and most of my female friends now cycle the same as I do.

it is true, but if you're just working out 30 minutes a day then it's okay. they're talking about people that train 4 hours a day on stuff like gymnastics and track.

What type of exercises ?

Nah, its really, really strenuos exercise that can cause that. A little more than n ormal doesnt do anything.

i did this race thing called pedal prix and that was a 6 hour race but i only rode for 30mins of that and i put my priod a week late so its probably the same for you
