Period question...may be TMI?!

Question: I just wondered if any other women experience this when on their periods? A few days before I start I get really gassy and stay that way until the second to the last day of bleeding. I also tend to have more frequent bowel movements. I know no two women are the same and all that...just wondered if anyone else deals with this? And how do you avoid embarrassing gas situations?

Nope, not TMI. The prostaglandins that cause the vaginal contractions that expel menstrual blood also cause intestinal spasms. I get diarrhea the day before my period, and Immodium AD clears that up. Taking a painkiller that cuts down on prostaglandin production (Advil or Aleve) might help, as might Gas-X. Getting some exercise can help, too.

When I have excess gas, I do this: Starting just left of your right hipbone, use your fingers or fist to make circular kneading motions. Move up, across your stomach just below your ribs, then go down to your left hipbone. This should cut down on your discomfort.

Thats why they call it being bloated. Take some mydol. It really does help. Find the one specifically for being bloated and cramps. Trust me it will help. And I know this may be TMI as well, but try to wear a pad here and there instead of a tampon and it will help to flush everything out of you so that the bloated feeling goes away completely and faster. Hope this helps.

Ohhhhhhh yeah I get that!

Haha

Usually the gassy part only happens when I'm at home, so I guess I'm lucky!

But whenever I have to fart in public, I either hold it in, or I do it in a crowded hallway where no one can tell who did it.

Yeah I've thought that one through! lol

Most woman do I don't ,but stay away from any food that can give you gas.

Were all friends here...I was in my thirty's before I had the courage to ask a friend if she got diarrhea with her period. I thought I was the only one. All this comes from your hormones running amok.

As for the gas; try to stay away from the usual culprits...broccoli, beans, milk, etc., that will only make it worse.

{Be very careful dear; diarrhea and gas at the same time is a terrible combination!!!}

Ain't womanhood grand ***wink***
