The middle of your cycle is when you are MOST fertile so if it is a 28 day cycle, then day 14 is the day you are MOST likely to get pregnant.
(day one = 1st day of red blood)
I have gotten pregnant on day 7 of my cycle so don't count on the "mid cycle / most fertile" idea as being gospel.
You can ovulate (release an egg) anytime and sperm can live up to 3 days.

no you can get pregnant anytime even during your period if you have sex without protection.
You can get pregnant anytime of the month. Even when your on your period. What you heard is false.
Also you can get pregnant whether you use protection or even if you take birth control pills. Nothing is 100% sure.
