Brownish dark blood is just old blood, breaking down. It's normal, especially if you don't have regular periods just yet. The blood breaks down while it's sitting there on the uterus walls waiting for your period, and the hemoglobin which would normally turn blood red has time to be reabsorbed. So it can't react to the air like it does when you get cut. If it's still rather a light flow, and your full period flow hasn't started yet, it's just the beginning of a period. Those can be a bit wiggy the first few times, until your body gets everything sorted out and all the parts working in sync. When a period is late, or skipped for some reason, the blood has longer to break down. In those cases, brown/blackish blood and clots are the normal thing to see. So it doesn't mean anything has gone wrong with you, and you aren't coming apart anywhere- honest. As a rule, it doesn't last long and soon you should see the usual reddish bloody flow you are used to. Trust your mom on this, she's seen a few periods and would be the best one to judge this one. And she'll know when it's time to bring in the doctor if it's needed. But this is not the time yet.

it could be your period. sometimes in the very beginning, or the very end of a girls period, the blood can be a bit darker for some reason. if it persists for longer than a few days tho, you should see a doc just to be safe. good luck :)

it is probably old blood w/ small clots of blood. If there is an odor then you need to see a doctor

Normal, usually associated with your period.

Don't worry honey, it's just old blood which is darker. It is common and totally normal. :)

Usually when your period is first starting or at the very end of your period, the color of the discharge can be very dark. This is because the blood is old and it turns dark brown. If this is your first period, the blood will start to turn pink soon. Listen to your mother, she can help you understand all this. Have an open and frank talk about it with her. If she won't then find your grandmother or an aunt to talk to.

Your mom is right and you should not be worried because it is completely normal.
