Heavy bleeding following removal of Mirena IUD?!

Question: I had my Mirena removed almost two weeks ago. The very same day that it was removed, I started to bleed lightly and then it picked up a bit and I realized I was actually getting my period. Well, I'm now on day 13 of my period and it is getting unbelievably heavy just like it used to be before I had the Mirena inserted. I guess I'm just a little concerned at the volume of blood that I'm losing considering it's at day 13 now. I'm on my fifth pad in about 2-1/2 hours. I don't know if this is a medical concern or not. Does anybody out there have any medical background that they might be able to offer me some help here. I don't know if I should go to the dr or hospital maybe. I mean I don't feel like I'm going to faint or anything but I do feel a bit worried. But at the same time, I think it's going to be PACKED the hospital tonight so if this isn't urgent then of course I woul rather stay home than spend my New Year's Eve in a hospital. Somebody please, help me

Mirena releases progersterone into the body, so getting your period after it's removal is not unusual. (the drop in hormone causes it) However, having the period last for 13 days IS unusual and should be investigated.

Having said that, if you don't feel ill or weak, it is not an emergency yet. So you could skip waiting for hours in the emergency room. I suggest you call the doctor as soon as they open on January 2nd, though.

awww I really dont know about it. But I hope you feel better =)
Happy New Year.
