This is menstruation or having a period." I am kinda scared. I was just wondering what I will espect. (I dont know if i spelled that right) PLEASE HELP ME!

Well, calm down. If you do get your period soon, here's some information about it all.

Symptoms:
1. Cramps below your belly button, but not all the way down, similar to diarrhea cramps.
2. Mood swings, not necessarily going off on everyone, but possibly random depression, sadness or anger.
3. Cravings for comfort food more than usual (ice cream, chocolate, etc.).
4. Sometimes headaches like to tag along with these other symptoms, along with weakness in your thighs.
5. Your breasts will most likely hurt, or at least be sensitive at some point, same with pubic hair.
6. Random tiredness, fatigue or weakness is quite common too.
7. Bloatedness.
8. White/clear sticky discharge on your underwear.
Midol will help with most of these problems, along with warm baths, heating pads, hot water bottles, exercise, and gentle massages.

Menstrual cramps are believed to be caused by many things, but the sex ed teachers I've had said, and what I've always believed is that the cramps come due to the muscles contracting and twisting, trying to push the blood and lining out of your body. Ways to get rid of them are:
1. Midol (menstrual relief pill), take one or two, depending on how bad the cramping is.
2. Exercise usually helps, try sit-ups, or other exercises that work out your abdomen.
3. Warm baths (not hot because that will make your period heavier) may soothe the pain.
4. Heating pads or hot water bottles where it hurts will help soothe the pain as well.

There's many explanations for irregular periods.
Some may be:
1. Frequent large amounts of stress, or spontaneous small amounts as well.
2. Health; from as small as a cold to as big as a disease or STD.
3. Activity; if you're suddenly very active (whether it be in sports or just exercise) it will reflect on your period.
4. It depends on how far you are into your period. During the first few years, your period will be very irregular, but eventually it will steady out.
Stress relievers (pills), less physical activity, more experience with menstruation, and diagnosis for your illness will help your period return to normal.

Things I would take with you to school (or any public place) would be: Pads/liners/tampons (whichever you choose to use), maybe an extra pair of underwear, a Midol or two, and if possible, an extra pair of pants (if worst case scenario happens).

Good luck.

you'll be fine just wear a pad it's no big deal you may need pain meds for cramps

its nothing...dont worry you'll be fine =]

well first relax. Your period is a natural process which is un-avoidable. There's no absolutely terrifying result or any huge pain that will make you ill for weeks there is nothing like that. Your mom will help you out for the first few periods you have then you'll get the hang of what happens. Yeah, it's helpful to read up on it, but to be honest you won't think about all that stuff when you start, you'll just get on with it. So relax. (I'm talking from experience)

When your period does start, you can expect a lot of blood, it's okay, just try not to freak out. If you think it is going to start, I would suggest wearing a pad just in case, especially if you are not at home. Stay calm, see how it goes, every woman is different. It is always worst in your mind before you experience it, don't get me wrong, it sucks, but it's nothing you can't handle. Good luck!!

I just got my period TODAY so i have no idea how to help you! i'm still learning myself. good luck

happy new yr!<3
luv
ms girly girl

dont worry about it,
you'll be fine. at first you should wear a pad instead of a tampon but if you're having cramps midol helps. After a while you get used to having it and its no big deal.

Well.........you will probably notice that you've started when you go to the bathroom. You might want to wear a mini pad until you actually start, since you're kind of expecting it now. Ask your mom...she's probably got some. That way you won't risk having an accident if you're not at home. You might get a bit crampy right before you start, so if you feel the cramps, go to the bathroom and check. You may want to pee to check. There might be a little blood when you wipe. Since you're just 10, you will probably need to use a pad rather than a tampon. Get your mom to help you with it. The pad needs to be attached in your underwear with the peel off sticky side down. Sometimes using a heating pad will help ease the cramps, or take some pain reliever (aspirin, or tylenol, etc.). Most women don't begin their period with a heavy flow --- it will probably be just a bit of spotting for starters, so don't panic that you'll have an accident when you first start. The first day or two will most likely be your heaviest -- the time when you'll bleed the most. Then it should taper off the last few days to where you'll probably just need a mini pad until you're finished.

when you`re young, periods aren`t always regular. you might not start this month or even next month. just relax, or they deffff. will become irregular from stress and that`s never fun. but i`m guessing you`re just about to start soon

good luck
