Heavy Periods?!

Question: When I was 13, I was on a class trip and had to go swimming. My period had started so I bought a tampon and tried to put it in. It wouldn't leave the cardboard so I actually swam around with the whole thing in me. It was very painful. A couple of months later, my periods became very heavy for 5 days at least. I have to change Super tampons every hour. They also last 7+ days. My mom thinks it's normal and my first tampon experience would not mess me up like this. When I ask for her to get me an appointment, she never does. Is this normal to have such long and heavy periods?

If you are having to change super tampons every hour for 5 days that seems very excessive to me. I know it might be hard, but is there another family member you can talk to? If not contact your local planned parenthood. They offer all women's health services in addition to birth control options.

it all depends on the person. they won't last forever and ur mom is right

Dont worry hun, that doesn't change how heavy your periods are. Your just still irregular.

I have been suffering from heavy long periods (7days) for 4-5 years now. I have to change 30min to an hour. I try to use a pad and tampon, sometimes the tampon is uncomfortable. The longest period I had was 2 months. The doctors just told me there was a chemical imbalance and put me on birth control pills. This was 5 years ago. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids. Fibroids tends to make heavy periods. I will be having surgery to have my fibroids removed soon. Hopes this helps
