I've had a mirena put in. It is heaven. The first few months were a bit rough - irregular and frequent spotting and bleeding and cramping. But after about 3 months I have no periods at all and no side effects.

If you only want to do it for 4 months they will probably just put you on an oral contraceptive and you'll skip the sugar pills. I've done that too and didn't have any side effects (other than what I normally get with the pill - some weight gain and a bit of nausea).

Sorry you're going through that. I've been through the same thing and it's horrible. Great you're getting it treated though, some women just suffer through and end up very sick from anaemia.

IF you find out if thats possible please let me know :):)

Have the contraceptive injection as this will stop your periods. The down side is that you can put on weight.

My wife takes birth control now after she had our kid and takes pills to stop her period. I would consult a doctor that would help you out. Good luck!

or you can just go on birth control which also stops your period until you come off it.

they probably give you some type of medicine

have you checked Web MD or called another OB for a second opinion? Also, I would ask the doctor if he/she had other patients this has worked for to get an idea of the outcome.

good luck!

The only way to do this is to take birth control. Depoprovera is that best solution. You can also take the pills, just skip the week with the placebo. I haven't had one in over 2 years and I love it. For information, there are no known medical issues associated with not having a period.

Sure - they give you hormones, the same types your own body uses to regulate your period. There are a number of birth control pills and shots on the market now that will reduce the number of periods you have. It sounds like you may also have fibroids, which are common and can cause excessive bleeding, so your GYN can check for these with an ultrasound and see if that is another thing they need to control for - because the hormones they give you would affect the periods too.

Birth control by its nature will stop your period. You can either go on the pill and just not take the placebo pills during week four, you can get the ortho-evra patch and apply another patch in week four (when you normally don't wear one) or you can get the Depo-Provera shot, which is good for 3 months and generally will stop your periods as long as you get the shot.

Talk to your gynecologist or primary doctor and see which method they recommend for you based on your other medical conditions.

Jeez, sorry y'all, in the time it took me to post a respose, I was just echoing everyone else.

mea culpa

I don't know if it will work for you, but it did for me.

Lupron shots for 6 months. It cured my anemia.

I had terrible pain down my left leg and periods 2-3 times a month and I was anemic.

You don't really need a period they found out that much.
Go to your Obgyn, before you faint in traffic.

There is medication (different things) that doctors can put you on. My 78 yr. old aunt had to have hers restarted a few yrs. ago, for a short time, for medical reasons. The doctor gave her pills to do that. Don't be afraid to discuss your fears with your doctor. That's what they're there for. Remember: You're paying them, and they wouldn't have a job without patients.

Heavy periods like that are caused by an imbalance in your Progesterone and Estrogen levels in your body.

If your Estrogen is higher than your Progesterone, you'll bleed like that.

Also, if you are overweight you will have "false Estrogens" in your fat cells that act like real Estrogen, causing your body to act as though your Estrogen is higher than your Progesterone, even if these hormone levels turn out normal on the testing. So this needs to be taken into consideration as well.

You can stop the bleeding by taking BIOIDENTICAL Progesterone, the cream on the skin is best. If your doctor tells you its dangerous, get another doctor because that one has his head up his rear.

I was saved from this very situation, so bad that I was scheduled for a total hysterectomy two years ago. I was making almost no Progesterone at all. Plus, being overweight I had all those fake "xenoestrogens" in my body that were magnifying the problem.

Look up "Estrogen Dominance" on google and learn about it, educate yourself as much as possible.

Be very, very leery of taking synthetic hormones such as DepoProvera and others.

These do not follow the same pathways in the body as bioidentical hormones do, theya re NOT identical to the hormones your own body makes, and they cause cancer and other problems.

Bioidentical hormones do follow the same pathways in your body as your own hormones, and are identical in every way to your own, and do NOT cause cancer.

Most doctors do not even bother to check Progesterone levels, because they are not educated to do so. It is as simple as that. That type of bleeding IS caused by a lack of Progesterone. Lack of Progesterone also causes uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, hypothyroidism, adrenals that are not able to produce cortisol (which your thyroid hormones need as "keys" to get into their receptor cells), etc. etc. etc.

Please, if your doctor is clueless or pooh-poohs bioidentical hormone replacement, you are not going to get the help you need there, go elsewhere.

never had it but i think they'll put you on a birth control pill. That's what they usually do.

The birth control will stop your period. But not in right a way. It's will take a while to adjust your body system to cut down the period. You will getting a fewer period in entire once year. As long you taking a birth control medicine. Your doctor will tell you about birth control and side effect.

i recently read about an opp that can stop your periods compleatly but this is a very drastic opp that the chances of them doing are almost zilch. the artical was about letting compleatly disabled people have it if their carer felt it was necessery.

im in the same situation as you are so i know exactly how it feels but i strongly suggest you dont have this opp. having this opp will mean that later in life when / if you want kids you wont be able to unless you have some eggs frozen. even then it would be very costly.

i suggest speek to you doctor or nurse and ask about going on the pill. hope i could help
