Question: so embarrasing and really nervous :/

Answers: so embarrasing and really nervous :/

Please, please, please have your smear test. My mother had cervical cancer and had to have a hysterectomy when she was 29.

Smears don't hurt, although it's not the most pleasant experience admittedly, but it's over in about 10 seconds.

To be completely frank, it doesn't hurt anymore than having a big willy inside you.

OK, so do it.

Yes if you regard your health as important

its for the best! dont be nervous, rather a smear test than be walkin around with some STI

No it is not.

But if you don't want to live in fear of having cancer - then you might as well

An annual pap smear is very important to rule out any changes in the cervix/cancer,etc.
I consider it so easy, having given birth 4 times.
Relax...it's over in a moment.

yes if you value your health

You have to get it done if you dont want the risk oc cervical cancer....to be embarrased is silly because docs and nurses see women's vaginas all the time...it's nothing to them...just like a leg or an ear...it doesn't hurt...just feels a bit odd for a second...

Yep, me too! I'll do it if you will.

yes they are honey better to have hem done esp if cancer is in your family.i no they are really embarrasing and you hate the thought f it but the doctors do this every day to them its seen it all before.i would tell you to go as better to be safe for the sake of 5 mins feeling scared.good luck and if helps talk to the nurse at your surgery and get your mum or a friend to go with you for support.xx

You don't have to have one but
its best if you do. They detect
abnormal cells so if for example
cancer the earlier you get treated
the better. yes they are embarrassing
but the doc has seen it all before.
Just get it over with.

Sadly yes it is.

Its not too bad if you relax, you walk into a room, you get privacy to take off your trousers and underwear, then you lie on a bed and put a sheet over those parts, then the nurse will use lots of ky jelly to lubricate a plastic rod thing, she'll use a wee seperater to make it easier, she'll take a wee scraping and it'll all be over with in about 5 minutes.

I have had loads done, and 1 minute of your'e time could save your'e life, so yes please have it done.

no one can make you have one, it is your choice. If you decide not to have it done, they will send you regular reminders and eventually ask you to sign something which says they have offered it to you but you have declined (its just to cover their backs really). Even if you do sign, you can change your mind and have one done at any time.

Saying that, it is in your best interests to have it done. Sure, its a bit embarrassing, but it is in the best interests of your health as cervical cancer is a killer. They are professional people who are used to doing the procedure and they will know you are nervous. It wont take long.

I am telling you the truth, a pap smear is nothing. It takes two seconds to do and you wait in the waiting room longer than anything. The nurse gives you a gown and asks you some med. questions. The dr. then checks your breasts, pelvis, then inserts the plastic thing to open you up a bit-that can be uncomfortable if you don't relax, then he takes a swab and inserts it for a specimen and that's it. Ask all your questions, during this exam. It takes your mind off of it.

Everyone gets it done.

trust me it is important. some women may not think they have ovarian cancer until it becomes fatal. i would rather be embarrased for a few moments than to die from something i could hav avoided

It is needed if you have been sexually active, since cervical cancer is caused by a virus contracted during sex.

It is probably not needed as often as doctors suggest. It takes about 10 years for cancer to develop after changes are noted on Pap smear.

A Pap smear at least every 5 years is probably enough.

yes its important to make sure everythings ok especially if you want your fertility. i know its scary but its necessary and worth it in the end just to put your mind at ease. if i never had one then i wouldnt have found out about things i had wrong with me that effect my fertility, so i wouldnt have been treated and my chances of having kids would be much lower.

yes because the earlier you can find out about an infection or the dreaded big C the earlier it can be treated! . if this is your first one , there is nothing to be nervous about, the doc does hundreds of tests every week. it is very simple and involves just a little discomfort, surely that is much better than putting your life at risk? go girl, you can do it!

yes it checks for cancer cells and has to be done every three years once u start having sex it is not painful not uncomfortable and the nurses are friendly and patient u have nothing to fear go to ur local family clinic for a free smear test

WOULD YOU LIKE TO DIE. a smear test is basically there to save your LIFE. all they do is put a swab inside you. witch takes second. and that's it. anyway when you have it done. you will have worried needlessly.

If you are a virgin/sexually inactive you may find it painful. But it is a very quick test. Dont worry about the nurse seeing your bits, they are used to it.

The risks of having cancerous cells are pretty low but obviously the major advantage of having the test is that you can catch pre-cancerous cells and have them easily treated.
