No. But the hormonal changes in the woman's body, especially during their period, makes them eat and choose food differently and sometimes even more, so might explain the 'gas'.
its common to get gasy or diarreah like symptoms while on your period. your body is all confused and crazy from being on your period with wacked out hormones... but i dont think you should blame it on your period infront of people. thats kind of weird, and could gross people out. just hold them in, or excuse yourself....
Why would you tell them it's because of your period? That's even more embarrassing than just saying "excuse me"!

Everyone passes gas. I once heard a medical report on TV. That the average is 12 gasses a day. I don't discuss passing gas with people. If I can avoid it I do until I'm alone.
